Operation Flashpoint 2-Dragon Rising.

One thing I do like the look of is the mission editor, that actually looks quite powerful. I might be able to get a few hours of fun out of this game afterall.

That's what I like to hear ;) Getting this game mainly for that. I used to make missions for flashpoint back in the day. Arma2's editor is essentially the same as the first Flashpoint's one, with the addition of modules. I am really looking forward to seeing a new one made from scratch. I predict that it will be console players who are fuming and frustrated by this game in a month or two's time and us PC players loving it because we get the infinite longevity the editor will bring and they don't.

Well, was hoping my copy arrived in the post a day early from where I pre-ordered it from ( like ARMA2 did  ) but got off duty this evening and when I arrived home, nothing but the usual junk behind the door from the postie!! :(

So hoping the postman is quick tomorrow and I get a chance to have a go at it. Reading through this thread doesn't exactly fill me with trepidation but I didn't pre-order this for the MP so I am keeping my fingers crossed that SP is worth the money. :)

Am i just being blonde or is the no jump/vault cover key?

I wouldn't mind there being no jump key if you at least had the ability to vault over low cover :/

Also the GFX are pretty damn poor even at max settings will post SS later.

Yeah, a little hand comes up. Although it's fairly random as to how it appears, if you walk along the sandbags/wall it appears and disappears. At first I thought it was to do with the height of the obstacle, but it doesn't appear so.

Hmmm, I'm sure I did it yesterday, I will investigate!

only had a quick bash mate i may have just found something you can't do it over, will have another go later on.

the menus for commands working on the WASD not mouse, and not turning off after issuing a command was annoying.

So what the verdict then? Any good! Pc Zone give it 90% didnt they? I love the first one I hop this one lives upto the hype.

Looks pretty good on my system, kablooey's screenie isn't a fair reflection of the game imo, although neither is the CM Marketing guys screenies...

I don't see how it's unfair as it's just an in-game screenshot. I didn't take it to make the game look bad or run around trying to find a particularly bland spot (the whole island is bland!) I took it a few minutes after running the game for the first time, it's what you will see if you view anything at distance. Sure the game can look nice, as long as you're looking at something a few feet in front of you, but that's not what this game is about.

But ArmA 2 is actually the third one. OFP2 is only OFP by name (Because Codemasters own the rights to OFP).

True, and it would seem ARMA2 got all the talent - by no means a perfect game but I fired it up last night with an embarassed apology and a new found fondness for its PC orientated gameplay wih multiplayer. In the words of one review,

At the end of the day, if the question is whether Codemasters can replicate the success of the original Operation Flashpoint without the help of Bohemia Interactive Studios then the answer is simple. No. - 5/10

Gfx seem incredibly poor, I find it a little funny Durzel said the previous shot was unfair, and has his own, at night where 90% of the crappy tree's, terraine and anything else, are hidden behind shadows :p

On max settings it does look incredibly poor, the orders system is needlessly clunky and unoptimised and the not closing after a command is issued is almost unforgiveably stupid. The FOV does feel weird, you feel very very low, and the gun seems absurdly large in comparison to how short your character must be. The sights seem, weird, overly large red dot or on a sniper, a massive triangle, both of which aren't really a close indicator of where your bullet will end up. Enemy's other than within a few feet, look like distant sprites, for which the hitbox/aiming seems majorly off.

While defending an extraction point, enemies got out of their trucks, ran behind heavy foilage and continued to pepper the wall I was crouching behind with fire, through the tree's/heavy bushes with no way to see me. I couldn't remotely tell where they were, and for some unknowing reason with their line of sight through the foilage advantage, they ran UP a hill into clear terraine where they were promptly shot at range with multiple rounds because the aiming is still attrocious.

I then decided, screw the helicopter, lets drive this ridiculous car over to the secondary objective, the cars which handle like cars from a game a decade ago, which I drove down a steep hill, hitting every rock on the way with no consequence, finally smashing at the bottom, doing a triple flip , in an open top car with no protection, to find myself, the car and team completely unhurt.

Shockingly poor on every single level from what I can tell, such a fantastic game I didn't bother finishing that FIRST mission, and find a lack of motivation to go back, always a sign of a fantastic game.

I will go back, I will play more eventually but I really can't see my opinion changing, nor wishing I had my £18 back :(

Oh, as for bringing up the graphics settings, can anyone honestly tell me theres a real difference between medium and high textures? I played the start of the 1st level on medium, later on I played again on high, I couldn't see a spec of difference at all.

Almost every good screen shot has been all about the lighting, and the one thing that seems to make the lighting look so good, is that uber brightness, or nighttime shots, seem to hide the other terrible graphics, making a tree a silhouette, or simple a distant dark blur(thats understandle, rather than a distant blur you should be able to see but can't, unexplainably).
