Operation Flashpoint 2-Dragon Rising.

its not a bad game, i experienced no graphical glitches
However as mentioned before the AI sucks badly just looking at you, and the gfx are nowhere near arma2 standard.

its just another unfortunate crapbox port :(

Imo A bad port is usually characterised by a un-optimised interface and/or graphics. Bad AI is a nothing to do with a bad port, it would be bad across all platforms.

Don't think we can blame consolitis for bad AI - I am sure that there will be people complaining about the same thing on the PS3 and Xbox.

ummmm, well I just went out and got my copy and.... well, I think it is not that bad tbh.

It feels solid enough and is more immediate than ArmA2. The cross com system of ordering, while not massively intuitive, I think is better than ArmA's system. Changing weapons and ammo type, also not a problem. vaulting walls, the hand was there right away.

Graphics - not amazing, but on par with ArmA2 imo and certainly not detrimental to game.

Enemy AI - yea, might be a bit ropey, but I will reserve judgement on it until I play a few missions in. They certainly returned fire, and took out one of my guys.

Squad AI - also yea - would like a bit more control, but then again it might be me not being a good commander yet, don't know. However they moved when told and did not cross my FOV. though I did tend to put my self forward. again - time will tell.

Ballistics - I don't know, I don't read Janes. But I could not take out infantry at 400m with an assault rifle very easily, so I don't know if it is accurately modelled but there must be something there.

I can't understand some of you guys who played it for 20 mins and then uninstalled, I think the game deserves more than that.

I am pleased with it so far, but as I said in an earlier post, I am quite forgiving of games. trying coop with a mate tonight and will report on performance.

I really do feel this is an accurate view of the game. I really can't see what's so dreadfully bad about this game. Especially agree with the last two paragraphs.

The command menus are completely retarded. On the first mission I place my team at a distance from the enemy who where on a fortified hill ruin. I crept around the back and and highlighted the enemy whom had not seen me. As soon a I ordered my men to engage the enemy they turned turned around and killed me. I had not even fired a shot off to give away my position. Wow this game is really bad.

I had that, i think they hear you shout the commands, like yelling at someone in asda :)

1) The red dot IS IN REAL LIFE massive. Nothing like a lazer pointer. It's not 'transmitted' on to the enemy body showing where your bullet will hit! Its just within the scope.
!

mine isn't it's pretty damn small would be useless if it was massive.

Mine on a military machine gun was blurry around the edges, and a circle with a diameter of 3mm.

The machine-gun was bought direct from the US military, after seeing service in Iraq.

It would have just about eclipsed a person standing 100 metres away.

Seems tha machine gun is more designed to pepper an area then do any sort of accurate shooting at targets more than 100m away to me ..

Are people playing on hardcore mode by the way? I've just seen this video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI6kUZgMBsQ

The optics used for missile launchers look a lot better than the ones in Arma 2 and the missile launcher that goes up in the air before landing (cant remember the name!) looks a lot better in OFP 2 than in Arma 2. It looks like it has the two modes that can go straight or come down from top down? I remember seeing a program on discovery about it and in Arma 2 you can only fire in the top down mode and the optics aren't IR like they are in the above OFP2 video?

I'll post my own views over the weekend when I get a chance to see it first hand, but from the videos it looks better (or smoother should I say) than Arma 2 so I can't see how it's so bad? I'm in for a shock I reckon :D

If it's bugs that are the problem and if the basic mechanics are OK then hopefully if they patch it in the next few weeks they can save it?

This would be great but ive got to question their interest in correcting the PC version to bring it up to scratch as even a decent milsim - the things that are wrong are just so wrong. the console menus where you shout commands and cant go backwards - why is there a splash screen at the start with just 'press enter' on it? - only looking forward in vehicles - Incorporating a decent MP - improving AI - Vehicle handling and even damage.

its just too much that cant be done in patches, should have been done before release.

LIkewise, I made a specific point to say the soldier I was aiming at was very close, likewise the bullet came out at an angle that was, frankly, impossible and stupid. Imagine if you would, someone standing 10 yards in front of you, there is a wall 10 yards behind them, its lets say 2 metres tall. THe line you aim at goes through the middle of the person towards the centre of the wall, you fire, the bullet hits the ground infront of the guy?????

Also not sure why anyone would think the dot on a scope, would be projected onto a person :p

Also shot real guns in real life, I'm damn awesome if I do say so myself. Only one rifle and a few shots, but quite a lot of clay pigeon shooting, which I love and am really very good at, not been in ages though as the place nearest me closed down a few years ago.

A machine gun, an actual machine gun, isn't inaccurate, but even on a tripod when shooting more than a single bullet at a time, isn't ever going to be massively accurate.

Played the first single mission, twas quite fun. Few interesting moments (2nd pic from last :)) Textures aren't that great as you can see. Overall fun so far. Defiantly need to carry a gun with a decent scope at all times.

- only looking forward in vehicles -

This one - I have to say this is a big deal and something that should (and probably was-but just left) have been spotted in the very first session of testing.

Pretty unforgivable this one, especially when awareness of your surroundings in this game is paramount to your survival.

Will have a word with my neighbours mate about this one ;)

I've been reading this thread all day saying how bad it is.

I've still gone and bought it in my work break.

Too long waiting, I must try it :)

Thankgod someone in this thread is thinking for themselves! :p

Just installing now.. Shall soon see! (Going to give it longer than 5 minutes though)

My copy of Arma 2 arrived today, going to give it a quick blast tonight before some more hardcore Aion levelling.

I'm sure glad I didnt get OFP after reading through this thread, my mates are picking it up for Xbox tomorrow so I think I'll wait and see how it compares - I will let you know if its any better on the console (which I expect it to be!).

why would it be better on an xbox?

Grr my copy didn't arrive from the island today! They have really dropped the ball recently when it comes to ensuring your orders get delivered on release day. Am tempted to buy it on Steam now and then send the copy back once it arrives.

I'm sure the 360 version is great and all but I'm mainly wanting this for the editor so wouldn't even consider the console version. Also, I expect mods will eventually come out for this. The Arma2 community aren't as closed minded as many here think. They will check this game out if it's any good and the test will be in seeing what the editor lets you do. Also, I will only touch this game in realistic mode with co-op buddies watching my six. That is how this game is meant to be played.

I liked that CM message on their forums. Very few devs do that sort of thing nowadays. The fact they acknowledged the PC gamers and their gripes is good enough for me to press on with my order.
