Why are most people REALLY mean to others on this forum? Is it because you all get a kick out of it?

This might be an old thread but I cannot beleave the amount of RUDE and childish people on this forum, Fox I have never liked your tone, lets hope you can GROW UP and the rest of you.

Sort yourselfs out for god sake, jesus its amazing anyone posts ANYTHING on this forum when you bunch of ****s get in here. - to all of you that did listen and help the OP well done.

It's ok, i've enjoyed the whole thread. Plus it actually motivated me to go out and get the certs / job etc..

So all in all benefited me.

Hardest was setting up a Linux domain with Pix firewall and a Cisco 3600 series router.

And I'll repeat the question with the key bit in bold:

Networking stuff like that is simple, even I can do that! But often you can get some pretty tricky PC engineering problems to resolve...

Good on you.

Its a shame that people on this forum don't encourage others to improve themselves. Instead, they simply put others down.

The real killer is that these people are not school boys, but fully grown adults, who allegedly have a good amount of knowledge.

God forbid that these people ever be asked to pass down their knowledge to others.
 
I still have to support NT4 machines , Jeez until last year one of our test machines
still ran Dos ( it was a 486 DX , powerhouse .. lol it even had the turbo button!)

So you still run into olde dinosaurs sometimes

There's all sorts of old hardware floating about in military / mission critical systems where that's the platform they use and it's not an option to remove / upgrade them with out a huge IT project.

Personally, I'd quit. Working with such old technology must be supremely depressing.
 
NT4's brilliant, I love it.

Although I just managed to get rid of our last NT4 machine at work - an app that's no longer supported and we have no installation media for. Was an old Sybase SQLanywhere 5 app and I couldn't even get the Sybase installation, managed to get it moved to a Win2k3 virtual machine - I love challenges like that :)

It was the original PC used to control the test equipment rack
The olde saying if it aint broke dont fix it ( the app used to control the system is dos based)

I month ago I removed a hard drive from a system (2G drive but no useable space left) , it was made in 1995 and was used everyday and was still going strong!

I can only go by what you said, which was if you worked somewhere with outdated systems you'd quit (rather than work to bring them into the 21st Century).

If this isn't the case, then I apologise! But I can only go by what you have written.
