And the communications stones... that's just weird
they were in the other stargate series but only used in 2-3 ori episodes? maybe once in atlantis

i think it sgu would have been better without the stones and no earth communication at all.

also latest episode was boring and screamed uber low budget which tends to mean they were trying to save some money for some CGI action packed episodes but they probably wont be until near the end of the series which imo is a mistake.

they should be trying to get and keep viewers now instead of getting the boring low budget episodes out of the way

Will they have the stones to stick to the internal logic? In SG-1, although I didn't watch a lot, apparently everyone spoke english(or whatever) because ther Ancients had been around before spreading the language.

The Ancients haven't been where the Destiny is so will we be spared immediate translation "it's like so and so dialect of made up language" and every alien a human. How about some genuine extraterrestrials.

Maybe have regions with similar languages so communication can improve over time then Bam reset to beginning for next area of space would be an acceptable compromise. Perfect communication with each new knobbly humans would be a massive cop-out.

Even bolder but less likely would be that the Glalxy they're in is devoid of intelligent life. Now you're really going down the Pinter route but even old skool red Dwarf only managed that for 12 episodes.

Oh well here's hoping.

It's pretty much been confirmed that the first series wont have any English speaking aliens and they will all be CG so probably not even humanoid.

To say that SGU is low budget is just inaccurate - IIRC it has the highest budget out of any of the Stargates and is very well funded. Whether it appears so is a different argument I guess.

I enjoyed the first two pilot episodes but the third....especially the end was so cringy, and the bit where the girl was telling her mum about her dad..... I nearly stoped watching at that point. Hopefully the next episode will pick the show back up, I hope so anyway.

Horrid... they are basically trying to reproduce lost but in space... the communication stones ruin most of the atmosphere - several points I just did something else until the scene was over i.e. where the girl was telling her mum about her dad as mentioned above.

I'll give it another chance with the next episode but they've pretty much lost me with this one.

Sorry but people wandering around deserts really isn't that interesting... everything in that episode has been done, and better, 10s of times already in stargate alone let alone other shows/movies and it wasn't that interesting the first time...

With the 3rd episode this has quickly bombed for me, it's turning into predictable sci-fi BS similar to atlantis and SG1 :( I really thought they'd be able to do something different with this after the pilot, guess I was wrong :(

If you liked stargate I don't see why you can't like this.

Let me put it this way, this is probably the last you will ever see of a stargate franchise (although I'd gladly eat my own words, I love SG). Take what you can, lets hope we get as much as we can till it's over.

Acting to me seems no different, you just need to get used to all the character, I've never come accustomed to any character in any series until at least the first series.

Need to learn their nuances, traits, etc.

Guys, I know it's the internet, "here thar be spoilers" and all that craic, but would it be possible for those of you lucky enough to see the episodes early at least try to refrain from posting plot details until Tuesday night when the rest of us get a chance to see it.

Us unlucky folk might trip across a big reveal or something.

Also, I feel left out when I can't either commend the excellent parts and complain when it's crap. :p

I've always found a way to love Stargate whatever they end up doing and Universe so far is good stuff but it is only the end of the pilot episode ... got to give them a chance!

Once they fix the air supply I'm sure they will then be able to make stops on some more interesting planets :)
