Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Yeah, this game seems very fussy. Had issues with a number of people connecting.

And when it came to Hector and Vincent1989 joining, Vincent had to join first then Hector or it simply wouldn't allow Vincent in.

The game really is that much better in co-op though. I have now gotten over the poor graphics too.

Really am starting to hate this now. Still can not defend the beach head. There are no APC's left so cant get in one of those. The building on the corner is intact and the ammo crates are there, which you think would be good. Tried putting a man on the fixed gun but he is pretty ineffective and gets taken out quickly. Tried staying in the house and picking them off from there but there is to many of them. Also tried having my team defend the area around the house and me basing myself in the woods picking off the enemy coming from the SE. I easily keep them at bay but my men are easily overrun.

Awful

Restart the mission. Storm up the left flank and take out the AA guy in the first crop of trees. Grab his BAZOOKA and keep running up and over the other side of the road. When there tank rolls in from the opposite side BAZOOKA it. You should get an achievement but also it means you have loads of your APCs left.

Take out all the mens and when the time comes to roll in to the village you should have 2 APC. Put an AI on the SE gun like your doing and just watch S/SE you should have loads of guys left from the beach raid if you took their APC out at the start and got up to the mortar team ASAP>

Cheers mate, will give this a go!
I DO love this game but unfortunately I am not good at it :(

Ok, having just finished the single player campaign, I thought I would post back with my final thoughts (Go Jerry Go Jerry!) :D This is PS3 by the way.

AI
As I said in my first post, the team mate AI is nothing short of terrible, however, I found this to be less of an issue has I put in the hours; but maybe this was down to me knowing the faults and working around them?

I understand from all the dev stuff I watched prior to release that everything your team does is based on some official military document, but from what I’ve seen in the game, this must be the official Cannon Fodder guide or something, as your team will always pull some stupid ****! But I understand that this is a computer program trying to follow these guidelines; shame the AI is too stupid to really play it out though.

Gameplay
The gameplay is still pretty clumsy, but as this is a bit of a simulator, I can live with it, at least it’s not as clumsy as its predecessor; the insides of buildings are far easier to move about for example. Weapon switching could do with a little speeding up though!

Sound
I really liked the sound in this game, everything just sounded right, but the speed of sound worked much better in the original Flashpoint.

Graphics
Pants! If I’m honest, I thought these were pretty poor by today’s standards; I wouldn’t put them that higher than some of the graphics found in Flashpoint, hell even some fan made mods for Flashpoint give better textures etc iirc.

The more I play the game, the more it seems to me that this game must have been designed for the original Xbox, and never updated for the 360/PS3 - one good example is your team mates…. where are their faces? Standing right next to a guy you can’t even make out eyes, it’s just shadowing, and things like this is a ‘next gen’ game are very poor.

Overall, the game runs very well with all the action playing out, but with such poor textures, I guess there’s no strain for that sort of thing to drag performance down – I appreciate that it would probably take a decent PC to have this level of performance with high res textures, but giving us texture this bad

Jerry’s Final Thoughts
To summarise the game in one word – “disappointing” would have to be my choice, the game is far too short, and whilst you do get quite a bit of action and enjoyment for your money, I don’t really see this as decent enough follow-on to Flashpoint, in the same way that Far Cry 2 wasn’t much of a follow on to its predecessor (imo) – where are all the missions where you get to drive a tank or APC, or fly a chopper or jet?

I wouldn’t recommend this as a purchase to anyone, a rental for certain! I think I’ll give it a run through on co-op next, then it’s off for a trade in.

Scort.

hi all ive actualy played this game now and well its ok but im an hardcore arma fan.

one thing i cant get to work is online what is going on here im hardwired to me router no other games on me xbox play up just this one?.

i remember battlefield was a little bad to begin with so maybe they just need to get a few more servers up yeah?.

cheers

A demo would have probably saved me 35 quid :D

It does have some enjoyment to it, so long as you don't expect to just dive right in to a shootout, as part of the enjoyment (for me at least) comes from using the open environment for a tactical approach. Incidentally, one mission allowed for a quite surprising turn of events – not giving too much away, I had just saved a bunch of guys and had to exfiltrate the area over a great distance, through a lot of enemy ambushes, only I decided to take a completely different route, finding an enemy jeep along the way; thus allowing me to complete what would have been a taxing mission in a few minutes :p

If you can, rent it.

Scort.

Hoping to finish the campaign in co-op this week and then will probably trade in for Uncharted 2.

I really do enjoy it in co-op, but the single player and mp are rubbish/broken, and I am sorely disappointed with the missions, and the fact that you play one small part at a time. For all of 220 sq km they have done nothing with the space.

Considering they kept going on about polishing the game... well, I guess it's true what they say about polishing a turd....

I know some think this game is the best thing since sliced bread, but I am sure some of you are living in denial.

I really wanted this game to work and be what they made it out to be - but now I will likely have to resort to getting MW2 for my FPS multiplayer fun.

Unless they bring out an amazinf patch by the end of the week!

PS - looking for people to continue hardcore co-op tomorrow night from around 7. Will be starting from mission 4 to take the airfield :)

Well believe this or not but I haven't played/reviewed this game since E3 or even bought this game yet simply because I wanted a 10/10 review on this forum for it because those that are Operation Flashpoint Vets no that at the time the original was hardcore and it was genius, I just hoped that this game would bring it back from the grave, but all I have got so far is mixed reviews but you say SP is rubbish, is this your opinion or do others follow?

Sorry if this has been posted already but just used these unlock codes to unlock 6 short missions called "Fire Team Engagements" in Single Mission.

(Case sensitive)

RaidT18Z
AmbushU454
StrongM577
CloseQ8M3
OFPWEB1
OFPWEB2

All of the above worked for me.

Really enjoying this game so far, starting to get a hang of the shooting at last :D

I enjoyed completing the various missions in Co-Op with friends but at the end of the day for me, the game was a bit of a let down when it came to the multiplayer. I think the Campaign lacks substance when it comes to the storyline but that's just one man's opinion. :D

Sorry to jump in. I wouldn't say the SP is rubbish, but if (like me) you enjoyed OFP, then it will disappoint you – the game is pretty much, well it is, an infantry only simulation. So unlike OFP, you wont be driving tanks or flying etc, during the campaign, whether MP is a different story, I don’t know.

Scort.

just been having some fun with the little bird, i managed to get it on auto pilot a few feet off the ground then got out, so its flying unmanned lol.

i can reach it and get back in too.

can only seem to do it with a little bird, the other choppers just fly straight up when i turn auto pilot on.

Sorry some of you bought it and aren't digging it. For me its the best XBOX live experience I've ever had with my mates (on coop hardcore) and I absolutely love it. Can totally understand all of the reasons why people dislike it though. Its very buggy, and does have an unfinished feel to it.

The core gameplay is brilliant, it's just let down by so many flaws.

What's the point of the massive island when we only have 11 missions to play around with?

What's the point in all the vehicles when you can only use them once in a certain mission?

Another gripe for me is the obvious no weapon loadouts. This is especially bothersome in coop when the other 3 guys usually have guns with just ironsights. It's honestly a pain in the ass trying to engage in over 600m warfare with just ironsights. Give us the option to add a scope.

And in my opinion 11 campaign missions is a disgrace. They aren't exactly ground breaking in objectives either. Hip Shot was the most fun for me, then the last 2 missions. But other than that, they were pretty basic missions which any decent editor could have come up with. Also, certain missions where you were given a time limit. I wont go into detail in fear of spoilers but again, why make the game even shorter by doing this? It's just baffling.

Again it's such a shame for me, cos when you're in the middle of a firefight and you hear all the bullets wizzing past you, it really is great. Just let down by these points in my opinion.

Think your post sums up the problem smore eloquently than mine r0zvad :)

Deep down, there is a great game that is horribly marred by a load of issues waiting to get out. Unfortunately even if a patch comes out that makes it what it should have been, I think the damage has been done.

For me, as much as I like playing it co-op on hardcore, the game is a 5 or 6 out of 10.

I still can't do mission 11.... Can't for the live of me secure the naval base...

Driving me nuts! Will try a different tactic tonight, so far I have been going round the back of it as the game suggests, but in all honesty, I think I will sit on the cliff facing the sea and just pick off targets from there.
