Torchlight Action RPG by ex Blizzard North

Yes Torchlight looks like it may be a nice game waiting for D3, I hope it won't be too rushed...

Release date is 27th October by digital download only and will cost the princely sum of $20. Seems worth a punt. Main quest is 10-20 hours of gameplay but you can continue once you have completed that.

They are also releasing the level editor for it.

DMCG please don't hotlink... it's against the forum rules. :)

Game looks ok... but not sure if it's my thing exactly. Would need to see it in motion I guess.

Video looks quite cool. Is it singleplayer only though? :/

this release is single player only but they are working on an MMO which will apparently be released in approximately 18 months time.

ill certainly be buying this game, looks great fun and the way the editor works is just fantastic tbh. :)

Can't wait for this!

Going to be a nice little game, with all the modding tools required to create additional content, it seems like the dev's actually care and will listen to the community.

It does look like good fun, yeah. I'll give it a try but I doubt I'll play it seriously unless there's some decent coop :)

(In a perfect world I want castle crashers but with deeper rpg elements/more advanced combat system...)

Looks like they put the Mythos engine to use, if it's the same guys.

Looks good, hopefully something to help fill the gap between now & Diablo 3 :p

yeah its the same guys should have plenty of replay value with generated dungeons/loot and with the support for modding ;)

Hopefully they get the gameplay, and the feel of the game right else it could end up being horrible. However, if it's ex. Blizzard North then I'm sure they'll do a good job. I'm surprised they went for the cartoony WoW-style graphics, I would have thought they would have gone for more gritty graphics like Diablo II.

But, that doesn't put me off. It's all about the gameplay.

real shame if there's no coop, loved teaming up on Titan Quest and this looks similar.:(

I would have thought there will be. They'd be stupid not to, it adds a ton of replayability(?) if you can run through the game again over LAN.

Blizzard must have such a high staff turnover, it seems like there's a never-ending stream of ex devs popping up :p

Q: Will I be able to play Torchlight online?
A: Because of the relatively short development window and tiny development team, we decide to focus our efforts on making a complete single-player experience. However, we are already in development of a massively multiplayer action-RPG set in the world of Torchlight for future release.

Q: What is the release date, and how much will it cost?
A: Torchlight will be available for digital download on October 27th, 2009. It will debut at the introductory price of $20 (US). You can get Torchlight from our site (www.torchlightgame.com), as well as various other digital distributors.

Q: How long does it take to complete the game?
A: Completing the main storyline takes about 10 to 20 hours. The main dungeon has over 30 levels, composed of seven distinct tile sets. However, levels that use the same tile set can be created using different rules and themes – so even though two levels might share the same tile set, they might be quite different from one another

Q: What will the download size for Torchlight be?
A: The game download is approximately 300MB.
