Totally - this needs to be more prominent in the sticky ;)

Backup any data, boot from the Win7 DVD and run setup, delete all partitions and then let Win7 do it's thing :)

do i need any software or updates for it?

There will be a firmware released very soon which will provide TRIM support (SSD equivalent of background defragging) in Windows 7. You should update your drive to this version - but I'd recommend not being an early adopter in case there are any problems ;)

No not stupid at all :) But I do recommend you take a look through the very large Crucial thread from about page 16 when people started getting their drives, and also the Sticky at the top of this forum. Some very useful info if you have the time to read through them.

sorry to ask again would it be better for now to install the win7 beta on my samsung f3 till the release date or is it ok to put it on the ssd.

im not all the techy on things like this all the help would be great in laymens terms would be good cheers

No problem :)

If you're comfy with installing Windows, then you can put the beta on the SSD just as easily as the F3.

All you will need to do is adjust the HD priority in your BIOS to boot from your SSD first (I would recommend unplugging your F3 during the install). Windows 7 should look after the rest :)

Remember you will have to install all your programs and applications again under the beta, and again when you install the final release of Win7.

I've found it very usefull to install Win 7 on my SSD and experiment with different settings and generally get used to it. when the release version of W7 arrives I'm confident I will be able to get up and running with the minimum of fuss.

ok cheers for all that i will get to read soon

one last question i hope,i just booted up for the first time woohoo all is well so far but i cannot find the ssd drive,i can see the f3 1tb ok do i have to set it up somewhere in bios?

motherboard is a maximus 3 formula cpu i7860

Where are you looking for the drive? During boot or in Windows?

Is it connected to the same ports on the motherboard as the F3?

You shouldn't need to change anything in the BIOS for it to be recognised. Can you go into Disk Management and see if the drive is visible, but not initialised and formatted - this would explain why it wouldn't show in "My Computer".

i have not installed win7 yet just thought i look in bios as its the first time boot up as just built the pc

my case is the corsair 800d and its in the hotswap unit so they all connect together

With regards to these drives do you have have IAAnotif.exe running. ??

yeah seen it's a event monitor for raid. but anyone using it, or disabled it.

im not sure i got this ssd setup corectly or not,its plugged into the sata port like i would a hdd, what boot times should i be seeing i get around 38secs?
also is there any software i can use to check its running how it should be ect?
is there any thing else i need to do to get it to perform to its best?

just not sure i got it setup/running right?

when i come to install the new win7 on release what will i need to do preper it?

sorry for the million questions but its all new to me and im a bit confussed at minute and need some help/guideance in this

cheers for your time

if you have it setup on a raid your mobo goes through detecting it . which on mine is 30sec's then you have the boot from them which is slower. thank just one SSD
