Torchlight Action RPG by ex Blizzard North

be interesting to see how much as the game's website mentions $19.99. Prolly will end up £19.99. :(

Yeah £19.99 would be a bit steep. I'll probably bite if it comes in at £15 or less, even more so if Steam do their usual pre-order discount. Not too long to wait till we find out...

Screenies? :)

Looking like a cross between WoW and Diablo

I'll definitely give it a go. I'm obviously one of the few people who thought Hellgate was really good, it managed a very similar atmosphere to Diablo 1. If these guys can come anywhere close it'll be well worth €20.

Let's hope it's better than the last Ex-Blizzard attempt, Hellgate: London!

Screenies? :)

There are some HD videos available (bigdownload.com).

Remove the polish and the online component and you're probably not far off. Hopefully it will fill the gap until D3 hits. :)

Hopefully it's not too short, it sounds fairly short as far as RPGs go. I'm hoping for a good amount of loot to get some farming and boss runs going after I've completed the game ;)

Considering its not a full price release then 10-20 hrs for the main storyline is fair. There is also an infinite dungeon so you can keep playing the same toon for as long as you want after you've completed all the quests.

Add in 3 different classes and skill trees within these for different builds and hopefully you have a fair amount of replayability. :D

Bah, if this was only multiplayer I'd be all over it. Hope they get that MP version they were on about out pre-xmas, but I can't see it (assuming it's going to be torchlight with MP elements).

I don't have a problem with it being short considering the price, I just reckon it's still going to be pretty short as far as RPGs go.

Hopefully they add different levels of difficulty (Normal/Nightmare/Hell) :)

I have been following the development of this for a while and I would like to correct a few misconceptions.

No MP at all. Torchlight is a single player game. The MP version will be a MMO due for release in 18 months (although I would take that figure with a pinch of salt this far out). The devs have said that they will move to the MMO immediately after release and not develop Torchlight any further.

They are also releasing the level editor for it.

Its not a level editor as such, they are releasing the full tools used to develop the game in the first place, so you can change or add classes, skills, spells and items, completely change the look or how the game plays, just about anything you can think of.

Runic aren't going to host mods themselves (for legal reasons) but there are 2 fan sites (that I know of) being set up for mod hosting here and here.

Also the developers are posting regularly on the official forums with information and tips.

The UK price I heard was £12.99, but the game is only digital download initially, although there will be a boxed version in the new year. It will be available from the Runic website so you should pay $20 plus bank fees. It will also be available from Perfect World, Steam, direct to drive and others.

The best bit is you can download the demo which is the full game, play it and if you like it then pay for an unlock key to get the full game (no further downloading needed).

BTW, checkout the latest promo on youtube :D (if you are at work be careful). The girl in the white top is actually a staff member at Runic (posts on the forums as 'Wonder')

If that's the Steam price then this is a day 1 purchase for me. Also means we are not getting shafted on the dollar conversion for once.

The best I can do is point you in this direction. I have to apologise, it appears I misremembered the figure, the article says £12, not £12.99.

As far as I am aware Runic haven't released information about buying the game from them but they have sent pre-order information to Steam see this post so you could get it from them if you so desire.

That article does not read like UK RRP. I would prepare your wallet for at least £15.

xe.com: 1.00 USD = 0.613021 GBP (20 * 0.613 * 1.15 (VAT) = £14)

Anyway, as you say there will be a demo so caveat emptor is not such an issue.
