The current preorder sales numbers are over 2.2 million, and this number is expected to continue to rise over the next few weeks until Modern Warfare 2's release date. Activision has also said that Modern Warfare 2 has had the most preorders of any of their games in the company's history.

Lol wikipedia. Lol Activision. Lol.

Why do you think there will be cheating? You can play through steam and so VAC will prevent cheats, which is better than punkbuster IMO.

Argh

You can buy hacks for a tenner that bypass it ALL.

Without an admin how are we to stop these bypassed hackers on servers?

Well I dont know how the kicking will be done, but in the podcast with the devs that talked about the lack of dedicated servers, they did mention that anti-cheat stuff will be done by VAC, and that it is possible to kick people still. You still get a fair bit of control about the type of game you set up, they mentioned it is even possible to tweak settings like weapon dmg, health, which weapons are not allowed etc...

no dedi servers = lag , people cheating.....such a bad idea match making.

Agreed. Anyone defending a PC game with no dedicated servers can simply try Operation Flashpoint 2 and have a look to see how it performs. Lag, people dropping and causing the game to hang and nightmares trying to get games sorted. It is NOT the way forward.

I'm astonished that they have removed dedicated servers as thats what made COD so great! Friends and I spent many a happy hour on them playing away. WHY would they do this? Surely dedicated servers don't cost them anything as people pay for them!

Pre-order cancelled. I can't believe OFP 2 and now COD MW2 is going to dissapoint me.

VAC is not that bad, and the delayed aspect of it means that far more people are banned for using a particular cheat.
Plus VAC bans them from ALL games on that steam account :)

You can still kick people.

No matter which way it goes, I see it being a problem

1. Hosts can kick people. This will result in little Billy 12 year old kicking any and everyone who does better than him. With dedicated servers, the chances of little Billy being able to afford the rental of a server is quite slim.

or

2. Hosts don't even know they're the host and cannot kick people. Now we can't rely on local hosts to police their own 'servers'. If there is someone glitching or being abusive, what then? Disconnect and join new only to have the matchmaker drop you into the same server?

lol, play a few random CS:S servers and you'll soon see hackers ranging from the very subtle to the blatantly obvious (ie running near the speed of light while constantly spinning 360, and head shotting the entire enemy team in one mag)

Hack's are constantly being made and with Vac leaving it a week or so to ban to try and confuses the hack makers as to what got their hack caught.

You're looking at a good month minimum from an undetectable hack being released to it actually start seeing banning often a lot longer though.

Votekick is pretty much useless as the hackers team never votes so long as he leaves enough people for them to kill and if it only takes one team to get enough votes you have kiddies voting off good players for killing them.

If it's the hosts choice then 1/3 servers will have the host kicking people for being better than them/not recognizing a hack and mistakenly kicking people.)

Server admins on paid for servers however have a vested interest in making sure the server is successful, and so won't just ban anyone better than them.

This ^ We paid £1400 for our server, Why would we want it sat empty by employing tard admins. Our poor Arma2 team spend more time admining than they do playing and its always been the same since BF2. Its gutting to us that we cant host this.

It always instantly gets you into a working game on the xbox, are you saying the xbox has mega power that the PC doesn't?

I must admit though strife has a point, while "host quit" is a major annoyance, for a console game COD4 had a fantastic match making system that 9 times out of 10 delivered a flawless experience up to the 18 player cap. I'm not saying that its perfect or a match for dedicated servers but for a console game it was pretty good.

I can see the benefit it would have if someone were looking for a quick game, or simply didn't care where they played, but being able to select what server to play on has it's benefits also. I wish they would have put both options in there. BF2 does it with instant action, or you can go through the server list.
