Nokia N900

At any rate, I do not see this being a phone for joe average at all, but only for linux monkeys... Like me :D. If you want a phone, buy an iphone, its popular with normal people.

I disagree - the last thing I am is a linux monkey, but I want this phone for its possibilities and for its web experience, I don't care what OS it is, though being linux is a plus point purely for the massive community behind it, there should be some good apps coming...

If you can see past the few months most people will be using it for before switching to the next new thing, then you only need to try linux (not ubuntu clones) and you will probably love it.

To me 810, its a geeky toy, only mangled by its lack of video out, low processing power and lack of usb charging. Even then video out is a bonus as the screen is generally decent enough to browse most webpages.

But linux apps were never really pretty, nor some of them are easy to install, ie you give it a shot and have to find one or two guides before you find the problem. And I don't really see many people bothering with it that much.

Also the fact that if you treat 810 as a server (which you can), it will mangle your battery life, but may proove to be quiet a decent and cheap always on server I guess. Just a shame it only has wireless. And I am not sure where I was going with that, but I think after il eventually buy the 900, will have a go at having 810 being a server, instead of my current pc. It should deal with the job well enough. tons of storage, low power consumtion, just only having wireless is a bit of a... Saying that, it always was quiet good.

That is so true :D

Never used or seen an 810 - couldn't see the point of them tbh..
Strangly enough after all these years using WM, Im ready for a change and the n900 has me excited and looking forward to having a new phone in a way that I haven't seen since the first orange e100 spv
At last I have a decent alternative that doesn't involve buying an iphone...

Severely tempted by this phone after reading all the reviews and vids...but dont think i can go to another device other than a BB...well i could but like the HTC Magic, which i got bored of very quickly...im just worried that after spending nearly a £1k on the Storm2 and 9700 Onyx whether or not i can justify another phone for myself.

Bloody hell, and I thought I spent a lot on phones!
Im bored with my android phone too, hope the N900 is diffferent - it certainly looks so.

Maybe you just need to apply a little common sense before buying?

I wish I ran to that advice years ago... I had a major phone addiction and reckon I got in to five figure debt over it  lol

All paid up now though and rocking an iPhone 3GS 32GB but very bored of it again (well the iPhone in general) so thinking of chopping it in for an N900 when it comes out. It certainly looks promising from the reviews but I wonder if Nokia will release it in typical high end phone fashion (well for them anyway) with buggy software, poor build quality & shocking battery life. They always find a way of ruining their most promising handsets...

N900 is a completely diffirent OS from their other symbian based phones. Build quality is ok, but it did have a couple of issues for me. Battery life could be better, but if you don't install crap load of always on services is reasonable. This is 810 by the way, not 900.

Yeah, I have read up about the OS and it looks pretty sweet. Lets just say that I have owned enough of Nokia's high end handsets & been an early adopter enough times to be slightly synical :) lol

I sincerely hope they do get it right though as of all the manufacturers out there I think it really is only Nokia that can give Apple a good run for their money...

They are planning to relase an iphone killer that costs more then iphone... Good plan on nokia...
I thought the 32GB iphone cost a lot more then the N900

Edit: it does

32GB - Apple iPhone 3G S £809.99 inc VAT

32Gb N900 £499 inc VAT

Maybe you should think before opening your mouth??...i dont need a lecture from you about whether i need to use common sense but cheers for the concern dad:rolleyes:

Anyhow Christo is right, i love tech and gadgets..i always have and always will...its my weakness but ive never ever got into any sort of debt from it...i only buy if i can afford to. But i can easily afford the N900 and buy it outright...i was questioning whether id actually use it or get bored of it.

Rsatd if i was to buy one and sell it...i wouldnt sell it that cheap as i keep my stuff in perfect condition or try to...so ill buy one then sell one to you for about £1k:D.

I'm really interested in this

Currently thinking of upgrading in January and I had just about decided on an iPhone 3GS but I'm also looking at this and the new Blackberry Storm 2!

Looks really nice and responsive from the videos on mobileindustryreview.com
