So we should all be pleased with any standard of living so long as we are better off than someone in the third world? No, I think our forefathers built this country up so that their children - us - would have a better life, they didn't build this country up so that foreigners could come and reap all the bloody rewards!

70% IIRC of the rise in UK population is due to immigrants.

Ps in before the Christian country. We're not and haven't been for bloody ages, and last I checked most of us didn't want a theocracy.
From here and various figures regarding the total immigrant population:
1950 - 50 million (2 million immigrants - 4%)
1970 - 55 million (3 million immigrants - 5.4%)
1990 - 57 million (3.5 million immigrants - 6%)
2001 - 59 million (5 million immigrants - 8.5%)
2009 - 61 million (6.5 million immigrants - 10.5%)
So in the last 60 years, the immigrant population has increased by 4.5 million, the UK population has increased by 11 million - so 40% of the rise.
