ST220 Droning sound :(

Hi All,

Just after a quick bit of advice. Purchased myself an ST220 not too long ago and everything is tip top except for one small (well I hope small) thing.

Sometimes when the car is not quite up to temperature when driving around and the car gets to around 3.5/4kRPM (only seems to happen in 2nd and 3rd from what I recall) the car makes a weird droning sound. The second I dip the clutch of ease off the accelerator the droning goes. Once the car is up to temp afaik the car doesn't do this at all, another point is that it only occurs after accelerating quite quickly as if to overtake or get up to speed on a NSL road.

The car has done 130k and is on it's original clutch, plus the brake discs need changing if this has any bearing on things. It is kind of hard to pinpoint where the sound is coming from.

Any help would be great :)

Hmmm it could be that. I had heard the term 'moosing' on the mondeostoc but so few people post on there I wasn't able to really find out what it was.

Will have a look later as I've never tried to replicate it whilst stationery so this could be the problem. Thankfully it's a cheap fix too.

Thanks for the prompt reply it is really appreciated :D

Pete, I'm thinking of removing the Mondeo and ST220 badges off my car soon. If I manage to get the ST one off without killing my car you can have it if you want. Unless you're happy with the LX-guise :P

Yeah i'll take it off your hands :)

Looks naff debaged though ;)

It's easy to take off without damaging the paint. Just heat up the glue with a hairdryer and you're good to go.

:D I'm just a stickler for symmetry.

I shall let you know if I get it off without issue. Can't see why it wouldn't, I'm jsut a bit dubious as when I did my last car it took the laquer off as well. But it looked like it had been stuck on a bit weird as the other badges on it came off just as expected.

Well when I removed the excess glue from the back of this one it just came off straight away with a bit of heat and some kitchen roll :)

you sure its not just the exhausts?

My car drones with aftermarket exhausts, when warm it sounds fine. Possigbly the same with the standard exhaust on the 220?

It's deffinately not the exhausts. I'm pretty sure it is 'moosing' now after seeing the YT clip. It's not an easy sound to describe but I know it's definately not the kind of drone you'd associate with an exhaust.
