Recently watched Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and School Days as I was in a particularly strange mood.

No wonder variouse chanels banned them, messed up stuff.

MMI you mind reporting back once you have tested it. Grey heads have asked me to find them a media extender.

Well I was testing the older version (not the new Live one) ... as he provided it to me it had the original shipping firmware which was pretty rubbish compatibility wise; had a few playback issues on xvid avi's but the big problem was mkv's ... subtitles just didn't work and audio was not working on ~50%+ files ... up'ed it to the latest stable firmware (1.02.07 (March '09)) which at least fixed the subtitles in most cases and got audio working on quite a few of the files. Then lived a bit dangerously and put the latest beta firmware (1.02.11 (Oct '09)) and that fixed the majority of the playback issues that I was hitting (apart from a few files which I'm pretty sure were badly encoded). For an example Da Capo II Second Season HD was only compatible at the latest beta firmware ... previous to that gave no audio, whilst Densha Otako (live action) just would not play back properly at all (bad encode?)

If the Live model has the same compatibility as the old one's latest firmware then I'm seriously considering getting one.

Fenris, I've seen both of those. I liked School Days but the other series was a bit to erm for me ...

(looking at the WDTV units so borrowed one off a colleague at work so checked a few things for compatibility).
Have a look at a popcorn hour if you get the chance
Got one for my dad last year..I/he reckonits the dogs danglies.Seems to play every thing i have thrown at it,with the exception of iso(but i think that may be an issue with the firmware i have installed )

Only the last episode of School Days was cancelled due to a daughter murdering her father with an axe or something like that at the time, and with what happens in that episode, not surprising.

There are some other disturbing bad ends from the original Visual Novel which are quite shocking as well. But yeah, quite a good series and lesson to be learn't for certain types of guys who cannot restrain their urges and feel the need to go down a similar path. :D

I did consider the A-110 but there is quite a price difference between both the original WD-TV and the WD-TV Live and the Popcorn device.

It's the infamous "nice boat" ending!!!(*) I thought that, given the subject matter of the entire School Days series, it was all quite restrained really. They could have easily gone all ecchi for most of the series and made the end a lot worse but they kept it pretty normal. It does have a male lead that you really want bad things to happen too anyway (once you realise what he's like). I even have the R2 LE's for it :)

(*) not a spoiler, when the show was original due to air the event which Phatjayunoi mentioned happened in real life and at the last minute the episode was pulled and a film of a cruise ship sailing around fjords was shown instead.

edit: I would note that the WD-TV Live doesn't appear to support vobis audio streams in mkv files ... this can be used surprisingly often ....

Well finished rewatching Eureka Seven ..... it's such a good series with a combination of action, humour, drama etc etc .... I really love the music as well throughout the series. I think my favourite episode is the football one (somewhere around 35-40 ... I think it was disk 8) for the humour :)

Parents are visiting next week so not sure what I'll have time to watch even though I'm off work all week.

Found some software that looks to be able to convert vorbis audio streams in mkv containers to ac3 so may have a play with that at the weekend on one HTPC whilst upgrading the other to Windows 7.

Ive been working my way through Macross Frontier, ive never watched a Macross series before but im finding this one very awesome. The fight sequences looks great and im addicted to the various theme tunes, they're just catchy :D.

I love the E7 music. This ED especially

I've been going a little old school :)
I rewatched Eva Platinum*, and EOE over the last week, and i've started on Great Teacher Onizaki which is proving fun :)

I desperately need to go through my collection and sort out the doubles/triples**, and put them in some sort of order.

And on an anime related note, I ordered the first of the **** Lithographs the other day, after thinking about it for a couple of weeks I decided I liked it enough to pay £40ish for it:)
Which leaves the question, should I hang it near the Godfather Picture/cell set, or on a different wall :)

*It took me over an hour to find my EOE disk, it wasn't with either the original Eva box set, the R1 eva platinum disks, or the UK Eva Platinum tin - on the plus side I did manage to clear space for about 30 disks by flatening the R1 GITS LE boxes.

***I know i've got doubles of most of Tsubasa S1, some witchblade, and 3 copies of the FMA movie (1xR1, 1x R2UK, and a signed R2 UK).

Yeah it's great how they can blend in action with pop music which also seems to fit perfectly. And a funny note is that a lot of the voice actors in this have also worked on some of the rival Gundam shows as well.

You should definately try to find the original first series (Not the Americanised Robotech crap!) if you can to truely understand the Universe a bit more as well, especially as Frontier has a lot of nods and tributes to it being as it is also a sequal.

Theres also the two Frontier movies to look forward to. The first one which will re-edit this TV series with some new footage and a second which will be a new story.

I just watched the 4th episode of Nyan Koi and absolutely hilarious!

If you enjoyed the intense style of comedy that was portrayed in Seto no Hanayome, this episode will be such a throwback to that.

Afterall, the AIC studio that is working on Nyan Koi did also co-produced Seto, so their experience with that paid off extremely well.

I knew there was something I forgot to watch today :( .... actually I'm not sure I've watched episode 3 yet ...

But my upstairs media PC is now running Win 7 and seems to handle everything I want so far :) ... but installing that and changing how I manage media files (what's stored where on the network) involved quite a bit of data movement and that took time ... oh and had a play with a tool which can convert vobis audio in mkv containers to AAC which looks like it could be useful ....

Did rewatch Bottle Fairy which was ok and rewatched the Love HIna Christmas Special (which I like).

Oh boy! Another series that is totally making me die from laughter is Sora no Otoshimono. Honestly I don't think I will ever look at a pair of panties the same again. :p

I don't remember if I've seen any of this yet or not .... I really don't like following series on an episode by episode basis as I don't have time to watch things every day and hence always forget what I've watched :)

I did watch episodes 3 and 4 of Nyan Koi yesterday morning which were very good, along with getting up to date with Kampfer which I'm enjoying and Kiddy Girl-and which I am finding very good with it definitely having the same feel as the original Kiddygrade ... hopefully the rest of that series will be as good as the original.

edit: had a look at Sora no Otoshimono .... had seen episode 1, and now have seen 2 and 3 .... very funny (especially episode 2 .... Pantsu!!!)

Yeah, decent cases which are not overloaded with lots of disks are lot better ... although the last bad ones I had were in the Kanon thinpak release where they used double disk thinkpak cases and every hub was trashed

Just finished watching the first disc....all ok,flicked through the second disc which was scratched and it `appears` to be ok(no glitches i could see anyway)
Found the fonts used (usual dvd subtitle)a pain :(
and (as usual)the subs were different to what i am used to ;)some discrepancies in the translations i found, but not too bad :)
