Whats an "interesting" small car?

The other car that's close the the MX5 would be the MG TF - less technically competent but potentially more girly appeal? Just leave a few quid to one side for the inevitable HGF and you're sorted.

Dad's got one (I told him to get an MX5 but he's odd) and its a really good fun little car to drive

An MX-5 costs the same to insure than my Fiesta
An MX-5 does not have enough power to kill you
RWD is perfectly safe, if not safer than FWD in some circumstances

Well, it'll be harder to control in the snow/ice? Other than that, I'd suggest one.

But then again that Barchetta looks pretty interesting...

Janesy B, you spout some nonsense

an mx-5 may cost YOU the same to insure (though i doubt it)
an mx-5 does not have enough power to kill you?! tell that to the people killed in minis, metros, fiestas, lupos etc etc
RWD is perfectly safe if you're a relatively experienced driver though will still catch anyone out if not a bit more careful

No I don't.

She's 29, had a licence for a while and she's female, that's the insurance dealt with.

An MX-5 does not have enough power to catch you out and put you in a ditch unless you are REALLY stupid. That was my point.

FWD can catch you out if you're not careful. If your stupid enough to stack a low powered RWD car, you're stupid enough to stack a Smart Car.

This OMG RWD will kill you crap is really wearing thin.

where did i say OMG RWD will kill you? and your points are still a nonsense

About as close as you can get.

Don't get me wrong, some people should not have RWD cars as their first car, like 17 year old Hormone fuelled youths. I would trust a sensible 29 year old female. The Estate Agent I saw a few weeks back came to a viewing in an MX-5 and guess what, she's still alive :)

That would be nice provided it isn't the 1.8i S as that would probably be a bit too lively.

Why?

It's the same car as a 1.8i with bigger brakes and iirc air bags and abs.

Janesy, i know you like 5's, i and many others do too but calm down it's not a fez.

@OP
MX-5s are perfectly safe cars and are not unsafe by any means, you proably drove RWD cars for 30 years without realising as long as she knows the brakes won't be as good and she will have to adjust her driving style slightly it won't be an issue.

Even the mk2.5 was an old car underneath and won't be as sympathetic as the latest super mini.

But they are reliable and cheap to run (mpg is a bit naff).
