Fuel prices

Compare the effort of cutting a large lawn manually (it'd take hours), versus perhaps £1s worth of petrol (20 min?). Seems cheap for the work saved?

Or a petrol driven chainsaw vs manually sawing down a tree.

The petrol for that 35 seconds of operation? 10p? 5p?

Doesn't sound outrageous .. it fact sounds reasonable to me. The only reason we need to buy it to get to work, is because we have more options of where to work compared to our ancestors BECAUSE we have petrol. So the argument is circular.

If we all had no petrol we'd all be closer to where-ever we work so we could physically get there.. and we'd have managed to get jobs closer to home because of less applicants - because most of our competitors for the job, without cars, would be too far away to consider going for the job.

We've caused our own problems with regards to petrol nowadays being required to shift us all to far-away work .. we only really need it because it's available and affordable.

If that lot makes sense!

If petrol was that expensive to produce I'd understand and probably agree with you about the price being reasonable - but it doesnt - its the TAX that is expensive - ie Gordon Brown and his cronies bleeding more money out of use to pay for thier lunches!!!!

(if I was wrong then you would see the tax decrease as VAT goes up to keep the price stable!)

fuel duties are high in the UK and always will be.

in real terms, the UK now has cheaper fuel than the rest of europe given that the sterling is so weak

The good old Asda chap who made a fuss of putting the prices down to 99.9ppl afew months back piped up 2 weeks ago proclaiming that once again there was no reason for fuel to be so expensive and that prices would start to fall again. Strangely the opposite has happened and its gone up further. I will see if i can find the article.
