OcUK Official G-Meter Top 20 - Now ADDED Nürburgring Lap times (BTG)

Few mates were over there last weekend, I think you chose the wrong weekend (in fact weekdays are the way to go) as they said it was the worst they have ever seen for accidents and traffic.

Yeah it was a very busy weekend and the track was closed for long periods of time due to the high volume of crashes. We would have went midweek but we couldnt get a suitable set of dates where we were all available and the track was open, so we went for the long weekend to take advantage of the track being open on the monday aswell.

I'm there later in the year (for the first time).
Any help/info you can throw my way would be appreciated big time.

All I'd say really is drive it quick but within your limits. The chances are you'll not be covered by your insurance so keep that thought in the back of your mind as you're flying through the corners :p I didnt really time myself this year as I'd only had the ctr 3 weeks before going and I'm quite competative and knew i'd be trying to push for quicker times if I knew what I was lapping! Instead I checked the footage of the only lap I had on camera and that was surprisingly the quickest lap I've done so far, the 9min 30 so I came away happy, tho the lap was one of my worst and I know I could go a lot quicker :p Anyways that'll be done next year

Also worth checking out here: http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/ Loads of info on there

Oh and here's the only 2 pics I've found of me on track this year :( Found loads from when I went in my bloody 1.8 astra last year! :o :p

Just back from the ring for my first time. Used Rent-Racecar and got a Golf GTI. Only got 4 laps in due to three of us sharing the car, but it was the most incredible experience of my life.

I only timed my last 2 laps, but a 9'37 was my best. I'll be back soon.

I'd love to do the ring in my CTR.

What sort of wear and tear does taking around the ring for a few laps do to a car?

1 lap of the ring is probably the equivelent of a 20 minute session on a normal track. Your brakes will be pretty much cooked by the end of it.

I really don't see how thats true. Most people comment that unless you are a hardened track veteran driving the ring is akin to very hard, fast road driving.

I don't see how a 12 minute lap of the ring is more harsh than 12 minutes on a conventional track. Surely a regular track is far harsher as you build confidence the more laps you do, you learn the track pretty quickly and you've less fear as there is plenty of run off which leads to harder and harder driving?

Its simply not, 9 laps round Donnington is harder on your brakes than 1 lap round the ring.

whats simply not? i cannot comment on donnington as i have never driven round it. i assume you have been round the ring? all i am saying is pretty much any car's brakes are going to be cooked by the end of the lap. i never said it was worse on brakes than donnington.

I found the ring was pretty easy on the brakes, especially as far as track driving goes, this was in my old clio too which liked to warp disks for fun!

Loads of times thanks.

Clearly the car you took round the ring had either milk bottle tops for brakes or the cheapest discs and pads you could fit.

Donnington is a normal track, the ring doesn't cook brakes like Donnington.

last post before i get on with something less boring than reading your posts. i never said my car cooked its brakes, although they were certainly not working that well after 2 laps. clearly you know nothing about my cars brakes so dont comment. my friends B5 RS4 has upgraded 8 pot brembos and they were still losing bite after a lap. maybe your mx5 with the hood down and the hairdryer on dont work the brakes so hard. who knows, who cares.

stop trying to be clever, the OP asked a general question and i gave him a general answer, which is pretty much true. deny it if you like thats up to you.

If you've got half decent brakes you'd need to be using them an awful lot to cook them in one lap. I did 3 laps on the bounce this year and never once had any brake fade, and the CTR is on oem brakes.

As Fox mentioned, I'd compare the 'Ring to hard fast road driving, just with the bonus of knowing that something aint coming flying towards you on the other side of the road :D

All I usually do is give the car a good service before I go and an oil change not long after I get back. My astra that I took over for a few times in 2 years got the same treatment and never let me down.
