I am disgusted with first direct. I went 33p over my overdraft limit for one day and I am getting a £25 bank charge.

These kind of fees have surely go to stop as they are exploiting customers to a ridiculous extent. I am so angry.

Cue the idiots who justify these charges by raging about how you shouldn't spend money you haven't got.

I'm in agreement with you though Jon, I think it's ridiculous, Direct Debit charges are even worse, and it's for nothing what so ever!

Call your bank. Mine tried to charge me £50 for being slightly overdrawn for 5 minutes. I spoke to them on the phone and they refunded the money.

Halifax from December will change their OD stuff to "make it simpler"

Turns out you will be charged £1 per day for any authorised OD you use.

Even if you are 0.01 into your arranged OD you will be charaged - Same if you are £2500 you will only be charged £1 per day.

Bonkers

It is ridiculous, bank charges should be much lower... 1/5 of that would be reasonable, but ultimately you shouldn't have gone overdrawn really.

It's happened to me but that was when my pay was late and my rent payment took me over, thankfully I got my employer to pay it as it was their fault!

TBH i agree with the bank, Rules are rules and you over spent and have been charged for the pleasure. Given, its only 33p over which may seem a little extreme but they lay down the rules when you take out the account with them and should know better.

Its like speeding and getting caught by the police. You might have only been 5mph or ten mph over the limit, but it is still within their rights to punish you.

jeez call em and get it back its not hard.

don't overspend or raise your limit..

Its just a computer checking accounts that are "over" then slaps a letter/charge out to you. Its not personal

I called them, explained that a bill that normally comes out on the first came out a little early, that I was at a funeral on the day it happened and so couldn't check my account and that I paid money in one day later. She sounded as though she was just reading from a script and saying nothing can be done.

Yes, if you are caught speeding you might get a ticket but they won't unless you are at least 10% over the speed limit. Besides, speeding is nothing to do with banks and their extortion charges so its pointless mentioning it.

Way to go captain obvious, you've enlightened us all.

We get hit with bank charges from Loyds tsb of around £180 a month regularly, mind we allways go over our overdraft of £1000, I wish they wouldnt cripple us.

Not really i was giving a fair comparison about rules and regulations. Which might help you understand better why you have been charged.

You complained about getting charged for going overdrawn on your account. When the rules are clearly stated that if you go overdrawn you get charged.

And you think that's their fault you cannot control your money?

The wisdon of some people.

No it's not like speeding, speeding is an offence punishable by law.

Going 33p into an overdraft isn't.

I've had it happen loads of times, when money was supposed to be going in to my account, while bills were due but there was an issue with me getting paid.

Another example, I bought something from a shop on my card, they messed up the transaction, refunded me and then charged me the correct amount, but due to the nature of how refunds work and them not being instant, I had the wrong amount still pending which took precidence over the refund.

I got charged for it but I called them up and they gave me it back.

Out of all the charges I've been "given" I've gotten them all back bar 1, and I'm just biding my time to get that one back.

Sorry, I'm one of these idiots, and as a shareholder in several major banks I think it's right that people who break their agreements should pay a punitive charge.

Call them and sort it out, if you've got a good history of money management, they will give it back.
