New Guitar

Tbh, you'll be struggling to get >=50W for less than £175 unless it's second hand mate.

Laney's are not bad as practice amps, and i'd stay away from Line6 if I was you. Used a Line6 stack in the studio more than once and they were terrible, but that's just my opinion.

You could go for something like THIS for around £150, but use a distortion pedal with it, tweak your settings and you'll hear a big difference.

Check http://www.marshallforum.com/amps/ out for some advice if you want a Marshall.

I'm biased though as I own a 5002 Lead 20 from the JCM800-era. It's solid state, but what a tone when she's cranked! They just don't make amps like that any more....

Is that one in the pic yours? I was considering strats more than anything else but because im only 11 the 50s ones have a real wide fret board apparently and the 70s style have 3 bolts on the neck so they come loose. hedrix is my biggest influence so the 60s one fits the description im looking for.... 4 Bolts, Regular size fretboard, 69 strat played by Hendrix and a fender.

got a 1975 Fender strat with a 3-bolt neck and its possibly one of the easiest guitars I've ever played! its got quote quite a thin fret board but very low action.....also can't say I've ever noticed the bolts comming loose lol

I've also got an early 70's Tele, and I agree not to everyone's liking but certainly worth a look if you hear (read: try one out) how versatile it can be. the shape may grow on you :)

Everyone loves a bit of classic Telecaster twang!

I've got a 1977 Fender Strat with a 3bolter and if anything its a fight to play it at times. But that's why I love it. Give a little to the guitar and it gives it back to you :)

Regarding the 3 bolt necks, I managed to knock mine a bit causing the tension in the strings to shift. Took the neck off and reseated it and screwed it back together and its fine.

As for Telecasters being country guitars. LOL. Led Zeppelin I was all tele and so was the solo to Stairway to Heaven on Led Zeppelin IV. As far from country as it can be!

My strat is a hardtail which I imagine does help with the tension in the strings compared to a trem? but then I've never knocked it on anything so it could also go wildly out of tune lol

Strats are awesome, you'd be surprised to know what songs have strats on them that you wouldn't automatically assume so. Example would be La Grange by ZZ Top

Did you endup buying a guitar yet?

Ever thought about buying a secondhand one rather than (without being too rude) new cheap tat?

pups? Yeah jazzmasters are cool but im not into jazz so theyre useless to me. They still look nice though.

Sorry but had to laugh at this comment :D Plenty of people into rock use this guitar - well out of your budget though.

If you're after a rock sound then you couldn't go too far wrong with a Gibson/Epiphone or an SG.

I know you said you weren't over keen on the Strat but if a new or 2nd hand strat wasn't your thing I could highly recommend a Yamaha Pacifica 112 - lovely tone and plays very well.

If you have a good guitar already then why don't you get yourself a decent valve amp? Save another £200 and you're in Vox AC30 territory or certainly a nice little Marshall valve. (Probably 15w valve would be plenty and 60w+ solid state)

Picked up my Fender Mex Strat for £230 including a hard case (non-Fender), this was from a local music forum's classified section. Bargain of the century considering that it plays as good, if not better than most Americans I've tried, and quite a bit better than a good few too. I love it. Here's my baby after I finished changing her scratchplate:

to be honest I wouldn't limit myself on a certain type of guitar for a certain type of music, go to some local shops and have a play and dont neglect to look at the second hand market, theres always some amazing deals on great guitars!

Problem is (as i see it anyways) in this price range a new guitar is going to have licenced pickups which never ever sound as good as the real things, if its got a floyd its going to be a licenced one, the only thing a licenced floyd rose is good at is going out of tune, non ebony fretboard etc etc, some cracking deals going around at companys like Gary Kramer atm, just means you need to import it.

Got any pictures?

Sure have....

And might I add, its the best guitar I own, it has amazing tone. Its a bargain at a grand. I am selling to save up for a 58 RI Vos. :) Its a Classic antique, killer guitars from Gibson and you cant get em anymore. Its a much darker colour in real life, gorgeous top, and stunnig sound from the classic 57 pickups.
