*** Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 @ £378.99 inc VAT ***

After using a 4870 toxic for a while now, I was recommending vapour-X cards to everyone I know, I was holding off for one of these bad boys, but just ordered myself the Asus one instead because the missus would kill me if she found out how much it cost me.

Can it guys, I'm sure OcUK has got the best deal possible regarding this item. Sapphire might have hiked the price due to the exclusivity of the cooler etc. No more moaning about the price, either buy or not it's your choice :)

Is it not Sapphire that set the price any way? What's the harm in complaining that they've priced this too high?

It's a fact that they're expensive, especially in comparison to 5870s. 5870s aren't cheap either, but they're the same price everywhere.

Should we also not be entitled to complain or at least express our opinions that the 5850 is much better value than a 5870? Never mind the Vapor-X one?

Its not OCuk fault its sapphire for monking the price a bit

yes it is, but have paitiants it will go down in price. or you get the stock one

I'm sure most, if not all of us, are aware that Sapphire set the prices for the Vapour-X cards.

We know from past Vapour-X cards that they carry a premium against their reference counterparts.

Arguably, we should also not be allowed to discuss the prices between monitors.

My 2408s were about £400/450 each, you can get 24" monitors for around £150 from here, so people might say the 2408s are too expensive for what is essentially the same product to some.

I think my 2408s were worth the money I paid, but I wouldn't dispute that they were expensive.

My point though is that people shouldn't be able to discuss the relative price of anything on here, which is hardly fair is it?

When I say the Vapour-X 5870 is too expensive compared to a normal 5870, I'm complaining about Sapphire, not OcUK.

Same as when I say the 5870 is poor value when compared to the 5850, I'm not complaining about OcUK, I'm complaining about the retail price ATi have set for the cards.

One day they'll bring out a GPU that doubles the previous gen and doesn't need a fan on it... I do the lottery too you know...

eeek there's another dream burst by ridiculous prices.

I hope these stock issues are resolved before Christmas. Get them factories working ATi bozos!

i was really looking forward to getting this card but even i know where to draw the line:( such a shame i might just wait till the 5970 is out see how much it goes for any one care to speculate?

with no competition , it could be they will really over price the 5970 like nv do, ati are not looking the bargain they used to be

I got my Asus 5870 yesterday and to tell you the truth, after going from my 4870 toxic to the asus one i was shocked that there is NO increase in fan noise over the toxic card. The reason I wanted the vapour-x card was for fan noise issues as my pc is in a tiny cupboard under the stairs in a tiny enclosed space and I crave silence. I read in other posts that the stock fan was quieter than previous ATI fans but was dubious about what people call 'silent' but I am now glad of my choice because I have saved myself over £60. This is no means in any way to dis overclockers price at all as it is Sapphire that makes the price, it's to inform would be buyers that if you want the vapour-X for noise issues, then the stock 5870 noise is on a par with the 4870 toxic. I would also like to point out that because the stock fan dumps the hot air out the back of the case, my CPU core temps have went down from about 35c to 26c but that is also down to the 5870 running much cooler than the 4870

The price is what it is, even the 20% extra that Vapor-X costs.

But since 20% is quite a lot in this case, I wonder how many people will buy an aftermarket VGA cooler for a standard 5870 if they want extra cooling.

Consumer choice, buy or don't buy. I'll wait as long as it takes for prices to return to normal. If computer parts continue to get more expensive then there is always the option of a games console as they seem to be better value just now.;)

I can't wait now for Nvidia to launch new cards, hopefully these 5870's will drop in price quite abit after Christmas, their is just no temptation whatsoever to buy these at this price even the stock cooler ones.

Is this card much quieter than a normal 5870?

Or are you paying for overclocking potential?

You're paying for the Vapor-X brand if anything.

I doubt these cards are any different to stock cards just a slightly overclocked BIOS and the Vapor-X cooler which probably costs about the same to manufacture as the stock cooler, noise-wise I don't see how it can be any quieter since the stock 5870 cooler is actually very silent for a change.
