Advice on noctua or mega cooler

Ive just rung oc to put a hold on a overclocked bundle Intel core i7 4gig which i ordered yesterday as ive been reading the forums and a lot of people seem to prefer the Megahalems cooler over the noctua and from most reviews it seems to be a better choice.

Couple of questions tho before i actually amend my order because im slightly worried as I have never bought a cpu cooler with out all the fans etc before, always just came in a box ready to go. I dont fancy much blowing it all up  .
Noticed i need the clips to fit the fans which seems straight forward enough now just which fan/s i go for also will the fans both plug into the cpu fan sensor thing or do i not have to do this.

Noticed the spec for the Megahalems mentions fan speed of 800~1200rpm, would something like the Noctua NF-P12 with the voltage drop arrangement, or is there something else you could recomend also with running 4gig should i use 2 fans in a pull/push set up. Ideally I would like it to be as quiet as possible, will be fitting it inside my p182 case.

I would go for Apache Super Silent 120mm if money is no object, or if you want something really powerfull but nosier maybe the Scythe Kaze Jyuni or S-Flex 1600.

Noctua NF-P12 is also a viable choice, I just don't think they are as good value for money.

The Megahalems is not the best value for money CPU cooler out there, but it is one of the highest performers. Just bare in mind that it is really quite big, and can block the first slot of the secondary RAM channel on some motherboards, and also check to see if your case has horizontal height clearance.

Im open to options to be honest, not bought anything new pc wise in a couple of years. I have just put the order on hold so have till monday morning when i need to ring up and change the heatsink to make my mind up.

Money is not to bad as I have not spend as much as i expected on that actual build but want something that will do the job well and wont be loud. Something i can put in and forget about.

Also thinking about some new 120mm fans for my p182 case currently running the standard ones on low but guessing ill need slightly more air flow whilst still keeping it quiet once my new board and cpu are in there.

How about the corsair h50 cooler. You wouldn't have to worry about lack of space with that. Pair that up with either one or two akasa apaches and then you're good to go.

The h50 cooling wise is also on par with the Maghelem.

I have been looking at that cooler too, how would i set it up is it something like:

Case<-fan<-rad<-fan

Would'nt have that massive weight on my mobo either i guess, not that i really move my case as a rule. Do the apache fans plug into the normal cpu fan on the mobo ? or is that where the heatsink itself plugs in.

Yeah you set it up as you described.

You can drive two 'fans' off the CPU fan header with an Akasa PWM splitter cable. That gives near silence at idle and they ramp up together when the CPU temperature picks up.

Taken off the H50 thread:)

Awesome thats just what i was looking for cheers, looks like ill grab one of those then. Just had a closer look at the connector seems it had the ability to run 3 fans so i could run the front case fan and the 2 fans on the h50 at the same speeds i guess :) .

that's cool m8. IMO the h50 does seem to be the way to go doesn't it.
Looking at your fan config fan<-case etc. ; the best way is to have the fan intaking into the case not exhausting. Fan>-case etc. :)
