What do you use your SSD and your HDD for?

I'm just interested in what you use them for?

I assume most people would put there operating system on the SSD but what else do you put on there...???

And same with a HDD... I assume its more for media but enlighten me :D

Is that the general usage of everyone concerned?

I spose it makes sense... I always assumed that SSD's were too small for programs and so on (I assumed they would get filled up quickly)... but thats cool. Thanks :D.

I suppose if you don't have one of the bigger SSDs, just install your most frequently used progs on it. That's what I'll be doing at any rate, as I don't reckon I'll be able to afford more than 64GB :D

got the crucial 128 ssd and with windows 7 all my programs and two games installed about half full useing a f3 for everything else

SSD for operating system, programs, games.
HDD for downloads, media
Simples :D
Yup, me too :)

I have my main apps on the SSD; stuff like Office, Photoshop, Lightoom, ACDsee, iTunes etc and small non important apps on a Hard Drive, CPU-Z, HDTune, WinRAR etc..

I’m running a 64GB SSD drive in my desktop and another in my laptop, both have Windows 7 x64 installed & apps and both still have around 30GB spare.

Im pretty much the same too, only 60GB of SSD room so have Windows and apps (not much, Open Office, Photoshop and a few others) which comes to just under 20GB. Then whatever game Im playing most at the time too :p Recently had Need for Speed Shift on there and it was miles better, seemed to take ages loading when it was on my HDD. Got bored of it now though so its shifted over to the HDD :p

But yea, HDD for all my media stuff (music, photos, films, tv shows etc) along with downloads and all my other games that just wont all fit on my little SSD's :(

Have the 64gb crucial it's almost full and thats just programs and fallout 3 goty edition. So i've ordered another 1 to run in raid. I'd say the minimum is 128gb not 64gb, that's too tight!

How exactly do you shift it from one drive to another? My only way would be to back up your saved files, un-install, re-install and re-copy save files... or can you just simply copy and paste the installation folder?

It's worth it.

Example - Fallout 3 high res and ultra details full AA and AF everything maxxed out. looking around in the large open landscapes the game stuttered with my Vraptor every few seconds. Indoor scenes were fine but obviously the large texture loads etc was too much for hdd to handle smoothly. Pretty much eliminated problem now with ssd

got an 80GB, it's enough for my OS, Apps, and a few games with some breathing room. I have 7TB of storage on my NAS for media.
I do a lot of juggling my game install directorys around to my NAS when i want to play something new, only takes a couple of mins for a 10GB directory, quicker than reinstalling.

Simply copy and paste the whole folder. Only done it with a few games but worked for all so far lol

Windows and a few commonly used apps on my SSD (80GB) and used my other HDDs for storage (2x500GB, 1TB)

HDD data storage. OS and apps on my SSD, don't game on PC but if did they would go on it too. Also put .ISO's on it when I'm installing to a VM on the data HDD and have my wamp server and website files on it too for some nippy localhost developing.

I've got W7, all my apps and doc's on my SSD and then my mp3's and movies on HDD's. I've used about 30GB of my X-25 160. I think I could have got away with the 80GB version.

I think we've got used to the massive capacity of HDD's over the past few years and 64,128GB etc is actually quite a lot of storage if you're not going to put media on (which doesn't need to be accessed quickly anyway so regualr HDD's are fine).

I guess the exception is if you're a keen gamer. Here you do want to take advantage of the SSD's speed but newer games seem to take up a huge amount of space and you could probably use up 64GB pretty quickly. (Ducky Spud's method of shifting the folders once you've installed the game is pretty good though).

I'm going for the Intel 80gb, seems like the sweet spot for size to me.
I'm still using an ancient 37gb raptor as my system drive so this will be a big step up, lol

Should be arriving tomorrow, can't wait! :)

30gb vertex in my netbook. Has XP and ubuntu netbook remix installed on it. No issues with running out of space yet.
