Should I go with 2x500GB F3's or 2 1TB F3's?

I'm looking for performance and speed as I will be using them for my OS and games no storage as I'm using my WD Caviar black for that since it's slow and loud.

Cheers

At the price does it make that big of difference, i went for 2x 1TB in raid array with the F3's and this was needed for torrents, so each to their own.

I just checked there the F3 1TB is the fastest 1TB drive on the market, it has 32MB cache weres the F3 500GB drive has 16MB cache, i would get the 1TB but thats my choice and am happy with it, since thats what am using already, so am biased.

No they aren't noisy drives at all the AAM is set to disabled at default but can be changed to quiet not that there is a need to, i have four of these drives running and two in strip raid setup and the 6x Noctua NF-S12 fans make more noise, not that they are loud either.

OP is looking for "performance and speed" not a money saving solution to sort out his WD Caviar black drive.

Hah, he actually says "Should I go with 2x500GB F3's or 2 1TB F3's?

I'm looking for performance and speed as I will be using them for my OS and games no storage as I'm using my WD Caviar black for that since it's slow and loud."

Not telling anyone to save money as wasting money is what i do best :D

If you're keeping the caviar go with 2x 500gb if ur binning it because of the noise go with 2x 1tb.

Not sure what binboy was getting at but there no performance and speed difference between the 2 raid setups so its basically down to what you need. Hell use 2x1tb and the caviar if you have the crap to fill them all with

I will be using them in raid....

Which one is would be faster 1TB/2x1TB or 2x500GB?

Either of the raid setups.

The cache difference makes little to no difference they are the best sata HDDs at the moment. google some benchmarks of the raid setups.

Not that it will give any worthwhile results as different machines, different settings, raid controllers etc etc

And if budget is no object why not get ssd?

Well its interesting your only getting to understand fizzle-187 question from the start now, he was trying to work out which array would be faster the 2x F3 500GB or 2x F3 1TB.

there you go again, why do you think he is for binning this WD Caviar black drive now, that would be a mistake to put eveything on an raid array, it would be recommened to have a storage drive, regardless of the size of array he choose's to go for or what data he puts on them.

I post,

At the price does it make that big of difference, i went for 2x 1TB in raid array with the F3's and this was needed for torrents, so each to their own.

then you post,

yeah but he has a caviar black for storage.

i replay back,

OP is looking for "performance and speed" not a money saving solution to sort out his WD Caviar black drive.

And then you don't understand.

You say tomatoe i say tomatoe. Still There is no significant performance increase between 2x 1tb and 2x500gb F3s in raid0
If im wrong post the proof. I'm sure some people would be interested to know.

Yes were splitting hairs here, so at the risk of wasting money on "no significant performance" gains go for the option of 2x 1TB F3.

The f3's are silent mate.
A single 500gb f3 has read and write of 120mb+, so looking around 240mb read and write.
Personally, I would go with 2 500gb sammys.

Cheers for the replies. I will be going for 2x500GB in raid 0. I will be using this for OS and games.

My SSD is on order since none in stock. So until then I will be using the F3's. WD Caviar for backup? Probs just bin it as I hate the noise.
