Gran Turismo 5 track editor confirmed!

Yeah, I would be looking forward to it more if I actually had a PS3. It's easy to criticise I know, but it's frankly become quite silly. I was supposed to be buying my PS3 with GT5 as a launch title! It's the only reason I don't have one, but I feel it's too late now. There are lots of good options for arcade and sim racers on the PC, and my Driving Force Pro works great with those.

Lost so so many hours on GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4. Not sure what went wrong, I know they're perfectionists at Polyphony, but a company has to make some money right?

A track editor would be a great feature. I remember lots of games used to come with similar features in the past. I used to make skateparks galore on THPS2 on PSX way back when.

Maybe, but the fact that no other console games have track editors, makes me think it is not that simple to make, otherwise everyone would be doing it, no?

Well depending on what they mean by a track editor, PGR 3 had one, Timesplitters 2 is probably the best example of a console editor I can think of.

I immediately thought of Trackmania 2 (for PC, due in 2010 I think)
Not the greatest quality video but it would be a nice extra if they can squeeze a similar editor into GT5.

Well if it is like the PGR3 one then it is not really a track editor, more a layout editor, but for all we know it may be like that (It just let you change layouts off a predefined larger track/city which meant there was a large, but finite, number of layouts), I am assuming it was not that popular (although I used it a bit for London layouts) as they got rid of it in PGR4.

Anyway we will have to wait and see (which is always the way with GT5 stuff :( ). If you can make any shaped track you want, then it will be great, and may even justify the delay as it will drastically increase the longevity of the game.

If it is like PGR3, it will be disappointing. Reading the exact wording from the article, it could easily be interpreted as just being able to change the scenery, which would be rubbish!!

Please note:

PGR3 HAD a Track Editor / Track Builder
It was limited but decent.

Also a "Track Editor" was one of the rumoured "winds" made by "Armar" on April 17th of this year

GT Planet reported the following:
Third tale says that for the first time ever skypaths will not be just solid and already known but that new skypaths will be built by birdtamers from the parts of existing skypaths.
The “third wind” introduces one of the most profound and unexpected new features – a track editor.

Regards these "winds" so far several have been correct in car numbers, the new PSP and GTPSP, all from April predictions.

EDIT: See someone else remembered the PGR3 editor.

Ah another GT5 thread ruined by people moaning about how long its taking to come out/how the handlings rubbish/forzas better............boring!

Anyway, track editor could be cool though I have no creativity so I wont be designing anything, I shall be waiting for others to do so for me :p

Can't say I would make use of the track editor but I will be getting GT5 on release day just like most people on here (Can't wait for the 30 page official GT5 thread). At the end of the day a racing game fan isn't going to not buy a game simply because it took a long time to go out, and i'm sure just like all the other GT's it will be huge, look and play great and be polished to near perfection. Yes they're perfectionists but meh, Forza to keep my occupied till then.

Hoping against hope the Japanese version will have english text lol then can import it. Unlikely, but can dream :D

One thing actually that really does annoy me is people criticising GT5's damage engine etc, limited cars it affects etc I love Forza 3 but the damage modelling really isn't that great at all, engine damage is fine but I wouldn't of been fussed without the crappy scraped paint effects.

Having never really enjoyed racing games til I picked up Forza 3, I am actually starting to look forward to this game.

Unlike many of you, I have not been interested in it for ages, so waiting til next year won't really bother me - got more than enough to play til then.

I think it might be a cross between PGR3 and Live For Speed, you can choose your layouts etc and then add certain items to the track (think Tony Hawk style editor).

I hope they have a fully fleshed out and working track editor similar to that Grid game on the DS/trackmania.

lol, more work for them which means that it will slip again.

I said it before and I will say it again:

PD, stop inventing new useless stuff and release the game and make the track editor crap free DLC

^^ The brilliant thing is, people complain that things should be included in the game and not be DLC. It's great, they can't win :p

Lekker :D

:D

I hope the track editor is indeed confirmed, that would be a massive bonus if it was a comprehensive tool where people could actually make meaningful tracks. Bring on some of the great British tracks (if they arent in the game already!), blasting round user created Oulton Park, Cadwel, Castcombe. Man the thought get's me giddy :D
