Dragon Age: Origins

ive no doubt that on PC this will be a hit but on console i dno.

On pc you get a "tactical zoom" option. (can zoom in/out around your party ala baldurs gate/nwn stylee) Dont get this option on console verions - you are restricted to sorta 3rd person behind one character.

It seems to be getting much higher review scores on PC than console.

Whilst that would not normally surprise me as there is quite a bit of difference in the play style between the two (Camera, actions, combat)

Most of the negative comments on the console don't seem to mention that, it seems to be the dialog and plot thats getting kicked on the console but raved about on the PC.

Weird!

Gah! This is definitely coming out at the wrong time. Don't think I'll be able to pick it up till after I have finished Borderlands, and then MW2 is out. Might get round to it in the New Year but Mass Effect 2 is out in January isn't it?

Anyone played it so far? Care to comment on the difficulty on the consoles?

Its made no difference in the past, that's probably to do with lazy developers more than anything.

I don't know about how much memory, but I do know that a bluray hold between 25gb and 50gb, so no need to compress things as much as it would need to be to fit on a 8.5gb DVD.

the game looks miles better on the PC and that isnt on bluray. compression makes no difference to the look of a game only to load times. if it has to be decompressed then thats it, it doesnt decompress it a bit and say "that'll do"

I'll definitely be getting this on PC.

The UI difference is a big deal to me, and not being able to zoom the camera out on the console versions just seems odd. :(

yeah i think ill do the same. Prices for games is a factor for me as well. RRP for console games is getting prohibitive for me. (some new games reaching the £50 mark inc 15% vat) Whereas PC software prices seem to be the same level they've always been at.

You install it on the PC, it does not run from the disk like the console versions will do so they can compress the life out of the data and uncompress it during the install.

So you are telling me that being able to use higher resolution textures because there is more storage on the media would make no difference to how a game looks?

Anyway, I am not claiming that is the situation with the PS3/360 versions, just said that having higher resolutions textures available stands to reason as there is at least 3 time as much space on the media.

After a bit of thought I cancelled my pre-order for the 360 and now have it preloaded on steam for PC. I think it probably is the type of game that is better played on the PC. I hadn't used my PC for gaming for ages until a few days ago when I bought Tourchlight which im thoroughly enjoying. Also bought Borderlands on the PC which im going to have a blast of tonight. Im suprised at how much im enjoying playing games on the PC again.

I may pick it up at a later date for 360 when its a bit cheaper, especially if it gets positive feedback.

cant think of any games that have been released on both ps3 and xbox360 that have looked significantly better on the ps3. its usually been the other way around if anything.

Thats the point!!!

Developers usually just use the same for both out of laziness or the 360 being the lead console for the game, maybe they have taken advantage of the extra space offered by the bluray...

Jesus wept...

does not compute.

anyway i dont really care im just looking forward to hearing how this plays on consoles from people one here.

ok, given it a couple of hours, Graphics ,can sometimes look a bit ropey, especially close up in the cutscenes.
Story and depth is excellent
Voice acting is a bit hit and miss, veering from great to a bit laughable.
Very absorbing, great characters
Havent come across any glitches yet
Menus etc, easy to use
All in all im very impressed, even though it falters in a few departments, if you looking for a great and absorbing RPG, on the 360, you cant go wrong with this.

Hi thanks for this. How is the user interface? Any problems with selecting characters or queuing up attacks? Does it feel intuitive? Can you alter the view at all? (to see more of the battle etc)

Does it play like you are in control of 1 character of a party OR you are control of the entire party? (talking about how it feels) I know you can switch from character to character in your party but doesnt that feel clumsy and restrictive?

any pics? :D
