I think my major gripe is the amount of page flipping you now have to do as with the old EPG you could see a lot more channels simultaniously in the TV Guide than this new one.

Its not bad and deffo takes a bit of getting used to but I think they could have done better personally. Just my two pennies worth ;)

Check the settings/options on the EPG, you can switch off the mini tv and get back your lines of channels. If you do this you actually get 11 channels on one screen rather than the 10 on the old EPG, and you still get the audio of the channel in the background. This is one of the few things which is good about the new EPG.

Indeed, turn off the annoying mini TV. I thought they had destroyed the guide until i realised that it can be turned off. When off you actually get more info per screen, and the personal planner is miles better with the series stacking.

Be careful with this though, if your EPG is laggy, like mine is, and you are deleting programs from within a stack, it will always lag on the second to last one. What happens is when there is only one program left in a stack it goes out of stack view mode and back to the main planner with the last program displayed in the normal planner view still selected. The ball ache is if you are deleting several programs in a stack and get to the second to last one, the lag makes you think the button press didn't "take" so you press it again, only to find it did take and so you delete that one but you have also just deleted the last program in the stack as well. Fine if you want to delete everything, not so fine if you were wanting to save that last program to watch and just wanted to get rid of the others.

got email yesterday that mine was changing, woke up this mornig to watch the news and bingo its been changed, must say its much better and seems fast as well.
not fully explored it yet but first impressions is i like it.

any Amstrad owners had this update yet? I've being sticking the phone line in and manually forcing an update every few weeks but have yet to got mine

The box has to be connected and in standby (powered on) for a minimum of 24hrs before it will grab the update.

It's not force-updating because it's not appeared on the update stream yet.

I have an Amstrad box and still no update. Is it location specific? I am in Bristol. Also, and probably most importantly, due to location of box/dish/phoneline, we were given a plugable phonecable-hdbox cable as we did not want a cable run round most the house/doorframes. I did not think you needed the phone cable plugged into the HD box for an update to occur? Or is that perhaps the issue?

Thanks :)

I had my box, Amstrad put in back in Sep but i havent seen any EPG updates as of yet....dont know if im missing anything special tho:p

Ahaa so that's what is going on!

I just got back home from uni and switched Sky on to be welcomed by the new EPG. I haven't had too much of a play but my first impressions are that it's good. I switched to Sky a few days ago and one thing I preferred about my old Virgin box was the EPG; it provided me with more clear information when compared to Sky. Now I have the speed of the Sky EPG but with the information of Virgin.

Thumbs up from me.
