The Official Football Manager 2010 Thread

Just something I thought was cool. Robbed Mauricio from Villareal for £500k (why they sold him for so little I have no idea) and he's formed a fantastic partnership with Naki, and he laid on this assist just now:

I guess that must be new for FM10? I haven't seen an intentional backheel before, I don't think. The players' movements seem more expressive in the new match engine, for want of a better turn of phrase; a few games ago I saw somebody hit a volley at full stretch, which I don't recall ever seeing in '09 either.

I'm trying to keep them all happy :(
Ah, right yes. :D I often have that problem. :p I always buy too many players and then regret it sooner or later when I have to rotate people to give them games. Unfortunately I find the players I have to give games to often don't perform well enough for me to want to give them more games so they get fed up-er! :o

Anyone think this game has been dumbed down a bit from previous versions?

Maybe slightly over 09, but then 09 was much harder than the others imo. 10 is more accessible with tactics and instructions, 09 it was far harder getting your players to do what you wanted and REALLY punished you if you got it wrong.

I only bought two players with United and won the first season. They have a great squad for the first 2 seasons, buying loads just doesnt help i found!

Left wing and right back normally the problems with UTD to start with.

Indeed!

Nevs / Scholes / Giggs have played 10 games this season between them.

The samba nevs are really coming on, but I only like playing them both at the same time :D :p

O'shea has been good when needed, Brown has hardly got a look in.

Foster seems to think he should be number one, VDS is happy doing all my FA cup / League Cup / games against relegation fodder.

Obi Wan / Tosic are happy playing every other game.

Rossi scores when played, simple.

Owen is too hit and miss ( and injured )

Der Vaart has been great, playing like VDS the smaller games, I like Anderson for the bigger games.

Carrick / The Scott have been happy being rotated

Hargreaves is only playing with Der Vaart.

Meh ! Can get rid of some in a few weeks :D

That's about 10 more games than I play them for. :D I try and get all three onto cheaper contract asap to save a bit of cash as I would like to have them all as coaches but I found on the demo I had to wait a fair bit for all of them to accept much lower wages.

Hmm so Rossi I suppose is a nice buy because he returns to Utd but then Edin Dzeko seems to be on of THE strikers to buy on FM10.

I get that too. He'll have a good game and then lots of poor games. If I start him in a top clash he'll not do much but if I give him smaller games he'll do OK. Which would be a plan if he didn't seem to get injured every so often.

Reverse for me. VDV's long shots and aptitude for playing AMC mean I give him the big games and Anderson plays when VDV needs a rest. On the demo VDV got me some very important last minute goals from free kicks to draw matches.

I want Nev as a coach, so I've offered him a much cheaper one year extension, will be letting Giggs / Scholes / VDS go if they don't accept a much lower contract.

Rossi is home grown, which is a massive boost considering I'm losing Nevs / Scholes / Giggs so he's a nice addition. He's young / a absolutly fantastic addition to the team and costs about the same ;)

Yeah, he had a fantastic game a couple of League Cup / FA Cup games but against fairly poor teams. Hasn't done anything of note since.

:p

Played 34 games so far this season, coming in to my last run of games.

Everton are the only "decent" side left to play in the League :)

Does anyone think this game is more reliant on a good formation rather than players?

I'm Man City and am currently losing to Stoke at home, with the players I have out there in reality I should be able to play any basic formation (442, 451, 433) and my players should come out on top. Yet they are not :(

EDIT: Adebayor saved my blushes. Still doesn't excuse the fact I drew with Burnely in my last game too!

Still to play;

Chelsea in the FA Cup Final.

Real Madrid in the Champions Cup Final.

Ok ive read through those guildlines and i feel more positive about my tactics now. Not sure whether to try and turn the season around or start again. I think I will just continue and see if i can sneak into 4th place.
