Warranty seals mean nothing BTW, it's extremely easy to remove them without damaging them.

Well I have officially heard back from microsoft and they are sticking to there guns, its banned. Ive offered to send it to them for investigation even footing the cost of the shipping and they are saying that its not needed because they have made there decision. To say im hacked off is an understatement. My question is this, how comes after owning it for 2 years and using it regularly until recently has it been flagged to be banned?? I mean I only play original games anyway. I wouldnt even know where the ms seals are in reply to one thread im not the most technical of guys at the best of times lol. It took me ages to build the simplest of pc's. I feel a PS3 coming on.

Im raging for you bud, as it sounds like they have made a mistake or you have been sold a dodgy console. I wouldnt know where you would go from here other than trying for a refund from the retailer or kicking higher up the microsoft chain.

Try contact him through here http://twitter.com/StepTo

Thats there head of live security guy someone mentioned. See if has any ideas seeing as your positive its legit.

If that happened to me and I was purely innocent I probably would not buy a new one, I would just be really angry. :p

Too bad to OP really. But he can't just give up and jump to PS3 since he has various 360 games and probably accessories too.

Or he can try quit gaming :p

Edit- Thinking in a nasty way, MS probably wants to up their console sales so they picked on some loyal xbox360 owners (by checking against their gamertag records) around the world and banned their consoles. Thus forcing them to buy a new Elite since they can't give up their 360 gaming experience yet :D

Threads like this worry me. I legitimately get games early to review, and I do worry sometimes that MS will make a mistake and ban me for playing games pre-release. I've been told people playing legit promo copies like I do will be fine, but it's still a worry when seemingly innocent people get banned for no reason.

If it were me I'd get another xbox to play review copies, offline.

If that were they're plan, would they really lock all of a players saves to a banned console?

If I found I had to start again, it would be more than enough to make me want to sell it all.

That said, I'm not really worried about being banned, I really see no reason for MS to do it without evidence. I'm sure there's a reason, even if the OP believes his console to be legitimate.

Seems like a draconian way to treat customers. If MS would just state why they've banned it then you might at least know where to go to complain.

Even with evidence of tampering in your console the shop are unlikely to hold their hands up to it and just stick the blame on you. :( Not unless you somehow find out the store has done this before. Trading standards?

Fair comment from Trixter :D In saying that, the last thing I would want to do is buy another Xbox I'm afraid. Not that I've ever owned or used one and increasingly unlikely to!

MS should really have explained why they banned his console. Especially when he made an effort to contact them and demanding an answer. If I mod my console and got banned, I won't be bother knocking on their door asking for explainations right?

Pity to OP as he owned it from new and have only been playing original games.

Possibly racism like others have said. I got banned of Jolt.co.uk servers on CSS for life for my friend making a some-what racist (Southpark) joke on it. I apologized on his behalf and they still wouldn't budge. :(

Most likely accidental though, I suggest contacting Microsoft.

I don't know what's more worrying, the fact that MS are banning legit consoles or that people simply refuse to believe it.

If MS are refusing to unban your console then there's not much you can do beside reporting them to trading standards, sell all your games and get a PS3.

MS are probably banning legit consoles to boost sales now the RROD isn't as effective. ;)

Someone has deffo reported your gamertag imo.

It's the only logical answer.

That wouldn't lead to a hardware ban.

Oh I don't know, I find it more worrying that so many are willing to jump on the "Microsoft are teh evilzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!" bandwagon because of ONE person reporting that their console has been hardware banned. While I am not calling the OP a liar (despite him believing my suggestion as to a possible reason was me calling him one outright), I would be utterly amazed if there isn't more to this.

When we get more than one or two reports, then I'll start to believe Microsoft are making serious mistakes.

Its clearly not because of a profile message - my brother got banned for 24 hours for having a swear word (part of a song lyric) that even had part of it starred out on his profile... so they seem to think you have done something naughty.. Recently the iso hackers on gears have been targeted for bannings - what games have you been playing online lately?
