Out of the 1000s on here, very few are banned for legitimate reasons, it doesn't happen that often in fact never come across it myself.

If anyone is interested in a banned console that works fine give me a shout lol. Ive lost to much time over this allready. Im starting to see the funny side in all this now, I guess its frustration thats showing through but one person againts the mighty corporation that is microsoft is going to get no where fast if at all. Im gutted cos I have over 50 original games, live content downloaded on my hdd loads of accessories too and its such a shame I cant use the console now for what I bought it for. I was going to just go out and buy an arcade and slap my hdd on it but im worried that this ban will happen again!

Sucks for you m8, i get banned once a year but then thats my own fault cant resist techy things like modding lol. There was talk a while ago about scratched discs possibly resulting in bans due to errors in the SS and other security info on the discs. Truth is no one has any idea how/why they ban precisely. Once a year give or take, around chrimbo, loads of modders get banhammered, but they all just buy and mod a new console, swap drives and carry on so it seems a little fruitless. It amazes me that MS can STILL beat the modders, when you look into the sheer number of clever tricks that have been developed by some very good hackers to disguise all traces of modding in consoles im amazed that microsoft have been able to CONSISTANTLY ban so many every year.

But what gets me further is why it isnt a TOTAL ban on all consoles that have been modified. I mean it seems clear MS can detect them yet i know a few people who have used modified consoles and illegal copies almost since launch and not gotten banned then others who are banned yearly with very few things in common. Its just so odd to me that MS cant either ban everyone or no one and that it works on such an accurate timeframe. It really is almost as if they are tolerating a certain amount of modding i just dont get why!

I really don't get it.
They have disabled a totally legitimate console from connecting to live, and have locked your save games to that one console, forcing you to start entirely from scratch.

Yet, there is seemingly no way of recourse? There is no way to speak to someone useful from Microsoft about access to Live? Someone from the UK rather than the usual americans and indians?

It all just sounds crazy! If what your saying is totally genuine, then they must have a pretty good reason for banning your console, as I'd imagine they only ban consoles they are 99.9% sure have been tampered with.

So it's £159+ to carry on your Xbox 360 'career'?

You could always take your story to one of the online blogs or something, see how big you can stir it up, they may perhaps change their mind then!

@ ladfromwales

In a perfect world m8..... Fact is you try taking on a corporation you will quickly find yourself a lot more out of pocket than if you just got a new console. Companies do completely immoral and sometimes illegal things all the time and the average individual has no recourse at all. If there were a few hundred then you could maybe take out a class action suit or something but there is no justice in this world for the individual.

To cite a case of this, a customer came to me with a broken DELL laptop, just 6 months old, the screen had clearly failed, i told him to return it. DELL told him the warranty was invalid as he had installed an antivirus product which they did not support (AVG), no amount of either of our efforts (or that of Consumer Direct) got us anywhere. £1000 down the pan. Thats life.

Ahh, guess ya can't believe everything you read on the internet! (save game locks)

I guess companies will pick anything and everything to go against you when a product goes faulty.

Place I bought an Asus MIMO router from are adament that my home is full of interference and has neighbouring AP's causing problems, yet I own several other AP's that work totally fine in the same situ. They did eventually bow down and let me have credit though, at first they wanted to send it away to germany for a minimum of 14 days when it was less than 4 weeks old as it was!

i have noe source, but am utterly convinced this happened in the first wave...

Yup I remember this too. I thought ppl were even complaining of it on here or at least news of it reached these boards. Im 100% sure this was actually quite widespread mistaking legitimate consoles for modded ones

Send me your serial number and I'll contact Microsoft on your behalf if you like.

I'd be interested to know their reasoning behind this.

Possibly racism like others have said.

Someone has deffo reported your gamertag imo.

Jesus Christ, have you two not bothered to read the thread? /facepalm

IT IS A HARDWARE BAN, NOT A GAMERTAG/LIVE ACCOUNT BAN.

That bits not accurate ive continued games on the same memory unit after a ban.

That was probably before the last system update though. It's only since the last update that saves appear corrupt when used on another console, so it's only consoles in this wave ban that have been affected.

Having said that, it seems that it's the player profile that appears corrupt rather than the actual saves, some people have reported their saves working again after deleting the profile (but keeping saves) and recovering the gamertag from live on a new console.

This is atrociously bad of microsoft. Anyone could tell them if your banning thousands of consoles it's just inevitable that a few legit would be accidentily banned too. There is always a failure rate.

It depends how much you care about this op, and what type of person you are. Personally I'd try and make as big a 'hoo haa' out of this as possible, as they have effectively forced you to spend another £180 or whatever it is for a new console these days. You need to find some sort of evidence that it is legit if possible - then again it's not like they have a leg to stand on either as they have no evidence that it's modded.

However some may just say "**** happens" and go buy yourself a new console, the inevitable rrod would probable happen anyway.
