PS3 or xbow 360 most powerful

If you think that then you are dumb, Uncharted 2 is the best looking game out on consoles by quite a margin.

Just because ports on 360 sometimes turn out better that doesn't represent an indication of power.

So you are saying that the PS3 is significantly more powerful than the 360 ?

I'd say overall it is.

The graphics in PS3 exclusive games, by far outshine Xbox exclusives. I'm surprised that the only statics mentioned in the thread are for the graphics processors, rather than Cell vs Xenon.

Take a look at games like Uncharted, MGS4, WipeoutHD, GT5P, etc. I think I'd struggle to find many better on the Xbox.

Gears kick their butts and then some.

We can do this all day.

Owning both the PS3 and 360, I personally think that there i so little to choose between them its hardly worth mentioning.

Ideally if you want the best gaming experience you should own both (and a PC). If you can't have both pick which ever has the best games for you :)

yeah im also a PS3 and xbox 360 owner, theres really nothing at all in it, regardless of 'theoretical' performances that only apply on paper and not in the real world. sure the xbox has a faster fill rate when all its unified shaders are on the case, but how often in the real world will all the shaders be performing the same task? im willing to say never...so instantly there is no point in comparing those statistics.

advantages for the PS3 are intergrated wireless, bluetooth, easily replacable 2.5" hard disk drive that doesn't affect warranty, built in blu-ray player and awesome remote control. so out of the box the PS3 is by far the most versitile machine.

games that look good? PS3 has Uncharted II, Xbox 360 has Gears of War I/II both look fabulous in different ways, uncharted is bright and vibrant, gears is gritty and dark, which looks better? thats entirely subjective, i personally prefer Gears of War every single time. FPS, PS3 has Killzone II (still the best looking console game IMO) and i don't personally think there is a direct comparison that i have played on the 360.

one of the biggest selling points for me is the enormous difference in noise output between the two, from my personal experiences PS3s are hugely quieter than Xbox 360s, especially the optical drives which on a lot of Xbox (mine included) are intolerablely loud most of the time.

billion shaders here, billion fill rates there, billion triangles all over.

they both look the same on screen, they both do what their target market is for, they tick every box in fact.

at the end of the day, are you a ps3 fan or an xbox fan, thats what causes these arguments.

Cant believe people actually take sides with one being more powerful than the other.

You are tools, actually learn about the hardware before commenting.

i'd never played a ps3 till last night and thought it was pretty pants, i played uncharted 2 and thought it was a blurry mess unless you stood still but then i just noticed a massive lack of AA, also played killzone 2 which was a lot more impressive to look at, also played a game where your flying a dragon and burning everything in your way, but again it was another blurry mess.

i used to own a 360 but gave it to my 8 year old son, and didn't think much of that either.

but out of the 2 i think the 360 is the better, i thought the games looked better and felt more solid, that's probably down to the 360's pad been better.

I can’t believe that this surprises you  You're in the console section, so I'm guessing that you have at least one of the 'next gen' line-up, surely you know of all the fanboyism, and peoples need to defend their choice of purchase, that comes with them

You are tools, actually learn about the hardware before commenting.

And you need to grow up, people are having a discussion, many based on personal experience from actually playing these consoles, why should we have to learn the intricacies of the hardware before were are eligible to post? I'd take someone's real-world experience over paper based facts and figures any day, thanks.

Ooooooooh, lets take a wild stab in the dark here - could it be that the section of the forum being posted in is "Console Games & Hardware", I think the clue is in the name if you read :D

Technically the Xbox has a better GPU than the PS3. But the PS3 has a better CPU.

However most games are GPU limited so this crazy 8 core cpu was kind of silly but it doesn't cost much more now so it doesn't matter.

They are pretty similar overal, I wouldn't make my decision based on which has the best hardware. Games and what your mates have is more important.

I have a PC, a 360 and am about to buy a PS3 for MGS and a few others.

Interesting unbiased articles here looking at the first 3 years written by a developer who works on both platforms, let’s face it he will know more about the subject than your average gamer:

http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-348-1.htm
http://www.hardcoreware.net/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360-one-year-later/
http://www.hardcoreware.net/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360-two-years-later/

As you can see, in terms of graphics horsepower the developer consistently states that the 360 GPU is superior (his words not mine) and that he doesn’t really understand where the PS3 is more powerful argument comes from, interestingly he puts it down to good marketing by Sony which is probably true. Your casual gamer probably thinks because it’s newer and more expensive then it must be more powerful, but that is simply not true.

However it’s swings and roundabouts as the PS3 theoretically has the CPU edge, although it’s apparently quite hard to get the most out of it, which would explain why most multi-format games look better on 360.

Bottom line, as many have said already in this thread, 360 wins GPU, PS3 wins CPU… end result next to no difference! So the argument really should be about the content, I own and love both, but if I had to own one it would be the 360, purely because I prefer the controller and because Xbox live is the superior online service, I know it’s not free, but you do get what you pay for!

Sounds like you could do with a trip to Specsavers tbh. :p

They are so close technincally I think it would be hard to pick either between the two and multi-platform games prove this. To me where Sony have a huge advantage is the relationship they have with their first party / in house developers. Sony seem to allow them the luxury of time and money to get the game perfected for release. Might not be the best business wise but sure is the best for us.
