I'm using the H50 in the Antec 902 with an Intel Core i5 750, with the pre-applied paste.

Not sure if the 120mm fan should be in-take or exhaust, I think it's exhaust so can I just flip it around?

Also is it a good idea to use one fan on each side of the radiator?

My temps get into the 90's when at 4Ghz on prime.:(
 
90's is too high. It's supposed to be an intake into the case, but the rest of your case cooling will have to be up to the job too. Push pull might work better in your case.

Has anyone mounted the rad on the outside yet? I suppose the non-detachable tubes makes this difficult.
 
push pull is the way to go although 'reviews' claim only a few extra degrees cooling.

90 is way too high. I've used mine as both an exhaust and an intake. It's works best as an intake but you need to ensure you've got enough exhaust capacity or temp will build up in your case. Probably less of an issue in a mesh case like yours mind.

I'd try reseating the h50 first. clean off the stock paste and use whatever youv'e got access to. I smeared a tiny rice grain's worth over both the h50 plate and the cpu which worked well. However core 4 under full load is 8 degrees cooler than the hottest core with the 3 hottest cores spread 1 to 2 degrees from each other. I think it might be the twist method when you seat the H50 casuing this so if/when I reseat it again I'm going to lock it into the retaining ring first then fasten the 4 mounting screws. It'll be a fiddly pita but worth a try.
 
It took me a while to work out how it locks into place, but I did unscrew the screws and lock the pump into the grooves then screw it down. I don't have any other thermal paste as I was told the pre-applied would be good.

Can someone explain how "push-pull" works?
 
A radiator is very restrictive so a single fan has a hard time pushing air though the a radiator so having a fan on each side splits the work load. Did you turn the screws holding the pump in as far as they will go?

I turned the fan around so now it is intaking cool air into the radiator, now temps reach max 70 degrees full load at 4GHz. Is this good?
 
it depends on your voltages tbh, but it's non unreasonable. My i7 920 nearly hit 70 with HT on at 4ghz using 1.20v on p06 bios. HAve changed to p08 and it needs a little more voltage which has pushed temps into 70's with ht on. more stable above 4ghz though.
 
Does anyone have a picture of a PUSH/PULL setup on a H50? Im curious as to how the extra fan is attached..

I put my fan on the outside as I didnt want to put any extra strain on the pipes. I wouldnt use the standard paste, they put far to much on. I used like a half a pea size and that dropped me temps by 8c. also adding the pull fan which in my setup is pulling outside the case knocked about 5c again off the temps. Like others say the radiator blocks all the push air and it just accumulates at the rear so the pull knocks it down a bit :D Im now comfortably sitting my 955 @3.7Ghz at 36c :D

I'm goin to hijack this a bit (sorry)

Has everyone used the back plate that came with it? I've got a true in at the mo, i've just ordered one of these and was thinking i could use the back plate that is in rather than taking everything out just to put the new one in?? Is the H50 back plate special for some reason?
 
You can use the true back plate. However in my rig the H50 back plate gave a firmer fit.
The true back plate has is captive nuts slightly protruding through the m/b whereas the supplied back plate stays flush with the m/b allowing better pressure in the pump/block assy.

use washers on the screws / springs to increase the pressure? Assuming they come apart that is. CAn't remember how they fitted t the retention ring, installed mine ages ago.

Not wanting to put you off, but my lapped true with 2 x 1600rpm scythes out performs the H50 and gives me lower case temps.

to be honest i'm not expecting much more than the true (about the same from what i've seen). I've just been paid, fancied a change and thought i'd give it a go.

I'll post my results tomorrow when its all in.
 
Does anyone know the core configuration for the i5? I think its rotated from the LGA775 quad cores but I can't find info to confirm that - if so the ideal way to apply thermal paste for it is a thin vertical line.


Despite the reviews I've seen a lot of people with the H50 posting temperatures that are far far worse than my Coolermaster V8.

Yes tried 2 x scythes. I found that the H50 raised my NB + SB temps by 2-3C.
I put it down to a reduction in airflow exiting the case through the rad.

I did the same. A few spare quid fancied a change.

Still cant fault the TRUE.

hmmm... i'll have to see what happens then. my case is nice and toasty at the best of times.

did you use it as an intake or exhaust?
 
yeah i think thats what i'm gonna do. My worry is if i turn all the fans round i'll be pushing hot air past my HDD's increasing there temps.

I'm gonna do a few tests tonight and see whats best. My thinking is that the TRUE used to sit in all that hot air and i had ok temps so this should have similar results??

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when i get it in. The DPD man brought it about 9.30 and its sat in my office waiting for me to take it home. Man today is gonna be a long day!
