The Official Football Manager 2010 Thread

Hadn't even realised this was out
It isn't. ;)

Nah it is. :p Just yanking yer chain. :D Bought it yet? Or getting it? :)

Realistic then. Presumably on this game Levy reports you to FIFA for clicking the mouse to browse his squad whilst the game informs you constantly that him and Harry are interested in your wife and most of your squad ;)
Accusing Spurs/Levy of double standards? I like you already.

aha :D

Yeah typical bloody Spurs !

I have about 45 million to spend, I want to sell PIG/O'Shea/Park and look to improve the squad.

I'll put a screenshot up later, so you can all offer your wise words ;)

perhaps I will contemplate replacing the long-serving Lung Jr, though it will be a sad day when he is finally dropped from the first-team, being the club's last remaining survivor from the dark days of League One.

You know what, after a lot of deliberation, I've decided I'm not going to replace Lung Jr. After all, he's been an everpresent for five straight seasons, unswerving in his dedication to the cause, the backbone of the team, and one of the key factors behind our surge up the divisions. That kind of commitment and drive demands a certain respect, and this club owes him a great debt of gratitude. I think I speak for all of us when I say that Silviu has earned the right to be considered Leeds United's first choice goalkeeper for the forseeable...

What's that? Akinfeev is letting his contract expire and CSKA Moscow are willing to sell him for £4.6m?

I see. Well, Silviu, I, as I was, uh... look, I'm going to need you to give that No. 1 shirt to Igor here, and go and sit on the bench for the next five years. There's a good chap.

Your game seems really jammy :/

If by jammy you mean I've had a lot of undue luck, well, yes and no, I guess. This is the first time I've really got lucky in the transfer market; I seem to have made the wrong youth signings more frequently than the right ones (like the Mattock/Dodô thing I posted about - Mattock cost £9.5m and developed into, at best, a serviceable Premiership fullback whereas Dodô would've been much cheaper and is now a multi-capped Brazilian international), and I've signed a lot of established players who were very expensive (by Leeds' standards) and who either didn't live up to their promise (Dzsudzsak, Dzagoev) or outright flopped (Hazard). Akinfeev is sufficiently good that I trust he will not fail it in similar fashion, so I hope he will be one of my rare success stories.

I will concede that on-pitch I've consistently done better than I thought I was going to do, though. As I posted a few days back, I wish I could claim managerial brilliance, but the truth is that I'm still using a vanilla 442 that I knocked together in five minutes in the tactics wizard. I don't even modify it for away games :P. I've been contemplating posting that FM10 seems 'easier' to me than past FMs but I figure it's a little too early to draw that conclusion yet. The squad does seem to outperform expectations a lot, and fate gave me a big helping hand last season in that a rather modest 63 points was enough to secure Champions League qualification (looking back through history, the last time that many points would have been enough for 4th place was nine in-game years ago in 2005, so I think I can count myself lucky there).

e:

I can't believe Akinfeev stayed at CSKA until 2014!

It looks like they must have been clinging onto him for grim death for the last few years. His contract had about a month to go and his General Happiness was 'feels he needs to leave to further his career'. I imagine CSKA must have been rejecting bids for him for ages for it to get to that point. I could've let him leave and then tried to sign him on a free, but I figured it was well worth stepping in early and paying ~£5m just to make sure I was the only club offering him a contract.

Funny enough the same thing happened on my game. Weird, that :p

Anyway, I'm still only at the beginning of November in my first save, I've been too distracted by Dragon Age to really get into FM10 yet. Still, it's going well - top after 11 games with 9 wins and 2 draws, 3 points ahead of the scousers (the bad ones, not the acceptable blue ones). Rooney top scorer with 11 from 11 :)

Just got a good 20mil to spend on new players seen as I just gained promotion. I haven't got a clue who to go for in the window, young talent or experience :/

thinking of getting Insua seen as he did so well for me last season and maybe a couple of other loanees and 2/3 players of real quality.

If you edit the database using the editor, will it effect your save game data? Like if i wanted to give 200mill to Arsenal mid season, can i do it?

I decided to start fresh again. Didnt want to cheat, its no fun. Real Madrid wanted 150 mil for Ronaldo lol and the same for Kaka, 80 mil for Ferdinand!

Do you guys attend all the press conferences? Do you do individual team talk's or just do an overall one?

So what formation is everyone using?

I'm playing a 4-1-2-1-2 (flat back 4, diamond midfield and 2 up front). Been reading on the SI tactics forum that the AI seem to struggle against certain tactics such as this and another one, can't remember what it was though...

I'm having an ok-ish first season with FC Bayern in Germany. 2nd at Christmas P17 W11 D4 L2, 5 points behind Leverkusen. Still in the league cup and i've got Liverpool in the first knockout stage of the CL to look forward to.

Thing is though we are losing money hand over fist! Started with a club balance of around 5m and i only brought in a couple of young prospects but we are now £14m in the red! Agreed to sell Arjen Robben to Man City on 1.1.2010 for £25m (think i could have got more as several clubs immediately met the £25m asking price when i offered him for sale) which should ease things a bit and he didn't fit into my diamond midfield anyway. Luca Toni is on £160,000 a week wages (best paid player in Germany in the game) but he's banging in the goals. Not sure whether to offload him or not..

I am using the same formation with Peterborough and I am overachieving! Currently 8th in the league and been as high as 6th. With this formation I can play my three best players Boyd, Mclean and Mackail-Smith all at once, meaning I am scoring lots!

As for transfers I have bought in Wotton from Southampton for a DM, Capaldi for a DL and loaned Gavin Hoyte to give me backup in defence.

Think I stumbled upon the best formation for my squad, and I use the counter tactic, seems to work well.

I decided to give it a go as Sheffield Wednesday :)

My United game is on pause for a while :p

Won promotion with Wednesday, doing really well up until the last 10 or so games of which I lost 6/7 :(

Currently trying to build a new team for my push to stay in the Prem :(

Budget of about 15-16 million, trying to pick up some bargins.
