**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

That's what the loading screen told me, but it just gives me the cost and a little description. Whether I've got it equipped or sitting idle, I can't see it anywhere..

it says it in teh description. ie my steal chain mail says something like when used as a set the cost for spells/talents is less.

He's after hard numbers, so defense increased by +10 etc, I'm a bit of a number cruncher myself so I know what he means ;)

I have been playing this a fair bit today as a mage and i cant help but notice that there isn't a lot of weapon choice.....I'm still using the staff i started off with as i literally havn't found any others! Am I missing something?

I found a few, but nothing major. What I never seem to find, in fact I've not found any of, are robes.

Actually, I was just after any info I could get. I've just loaded up my save to screenie you into backtracking Tefal, and lo and behold there's the set bonus, sitting right there in the description. I swear that wasn't there a few days ago. The source code has it in for me, that must be it.

Found the secret to that battle - it's a story fight, you're not supposed to win. I replayed it another 7 or 8 times since that post, finally dropped glyphs for the paralysis combo at just the right time to allow Morrigan to drop back and cast Storm of the Century, killed off about 80% of the lackeys before sword-wielding harpy got free and started chomping off 120+ health with every swing. Barely even scratched her and I was dead again, sat back in exhasperation and no 'game over' screen... I'm not used to battles I can't win, they always throw me off balance. Like I failed or something. Which I never do.

Source code, Tefal. Source code.

Into the game now.

1080 resolution and 2x AA is the best i can get before i notice the FPS drop, is that about right for all the others running 5870's !?

Also, are you lot playing with frame effects on or off, personally I hate them and have turned them off.

I'm running it at 1920 x 1600 with everything on max and AA @ 4x , it runs very smoothly and I could probably up the AA but it already looks great as it is , got frame effects enabled

thats on an i7 920 @4ghz 6gb ram and a 5870

Hmm, must be your CPU helping you along the way.

I read that this game is very CPU dependent.

Anything over 2XAA sends my frame rate plummeting below 30.

Itemisation, I find, is pretty poor.

In BG2, you found a number or interesting items early on, and continued to throughout the game. Lilacor (a talking sword!) for example, or the +2 named sword on the first level. It gave you the incentive to search out decent items, there was always something new to wear.

In DA:O, I've only *just* put new armour on my Rogue at level 12. Morrigan is still using the same staff, as is Wynne. Alastair is only on his 2nd sword.

I just seem to get endless crap....loads of it. There's barely any named/unique stuff, which I find is a bit poor because RPG's are all about the loot. There's nothing better than fighting your way through a huge dungeon, felling the big boss and getting some sparkling, crackling, kick-ass mofo Sword to swing around your head.

But in this, you get Steel Dagger, a few pots, some Elfroot and a few coin. Great.

Actually, while we're on the subject, how are people finding it compared to BG2?

As much as I'm really enjoying it, its definately in its shadow. It feels more like an improved NWN, rather than a new BG2. Itemisation is poor, classes feel restricted, I'm not keen on any of the NPC's and the limit of 4 people in a party *really* causes limitations on party makeup. It does take itself too seriously sometimes aswell....where's the new version of Noober? ;)

As I say, I love it, its the best true RPG since BG2 - Some of the stories mini quests/stories are fantastic, love the artwork and the fighting animations. Lots of lore/story/chatting.

Maybe I just set my expectations too high, as BG2 was epic.... But I can't see the replay value that BG2 had.

I have a 8800gt and run that res and 2*aa without any frame drop but i have a Quad [email protected] and DA loves quads
