Disfigured newsreader for Five

What I mean is there were times where she was sat talking with her husband outside the cafe where she just seemed like a perfectly normal person, perfectly happy. The fact that I instinctively presumed she would be unhappy considering her condition proves the cause she is campaigning for; that people should not be prejudice just because of someone's appearance.

if kids see that they could have a shock.

never mind stan from american dad, how about quagmire from family guy :p

It just seems like this will lead to television producers employing facially disfigured people over me and you simply to hit their targets, Asda (Walmart) do it and get away with it why do people stand for it? if I got the job over a similar qualified black guy then there would be trouble but some guy with a mental illness applies and gets the job over an average person, sod that, there is no way that he was beter than me at interview

dont worry about it there are a lot more people who dont have any serious disfigurement or mental illness who would challenge you for a position. Dont assume that people with a disfigurement were hired "because" of it, or that they are less capible.

The photo above is seriously disturbing. Imagine seeing that on TV without being ready for it.
Are you really being serious? That and some people posting in other threads that people that aren't up to their standards in attractiveness nearly made them sick: I've got to wonder how these people manage to make it down the street every day. Day to day life must be awfully scary and unpleasant for these people.

People should be employed on their ability to do the job alone. I certainly wouldn't have a problem with their appearance or with them appearing on TV. If anything it could be a positive thing as people (and children) will get used to seeing people who have facial disfigurements and make less of an issue of it. Of course they shouldn't be employed for that reason, it's just something positive that could come from it if they were the best person for the job.

I did find it hilariously ironic that these people were going on TV to raise awareness of facial disfuigurement conditions, and almost all of OCUK replies with "OMG WTF UGLY" etc :/

There's not even any discrimination law in place for this. What are you wittering about?

I'm a 16 stone bearded uggo. I could train to be the best cat walk model ever, doesn't mean I should replace Kate Moss. Some people just aren't meant for certain jobs and common sense has to be applied. Five will lose viewers because of this.

I think peoples prejudices are more the issue than facial disfugurement.

Thing is, people will always be prejudiced against this sort of thing. We can't even deal with people of a different nationality half the time so disfigurement is usually way out there.

Ultimately, in their position, I would want treatment for my disfigurement but then that is still conforming to an ideal and is above all trying to fit in.

I feel for those who are disfigured as they are completely stuck. Society will never fully accept them (its just a fact, you will always have people who stare and point) and currently there is no 'cure' for many types of disfigurement.

The reason people will not watch it will be because they will feel uncomfortable watching it, not because they do not [directly] want to watch a disfigured person, and with somebody being on the news, 4.7% will feel less uncomfortable, and possibly more will watch it because the news will, most probably, make the news, and the Daily Mail, and whatever else.

I do understand what gambitt is trying to say, but this isn't catwalk modeling, they aren't models, or actors, they are people that are meant to sound educated so that you believe them of the new they have to tell you.

Step in the right direction.

They are meant to sound educated and they are supposed to be easy on the eye. If she's that good perhaps a career in radio would be more suitable. I'm not saying they have to be beautiful but given the choice most people will want to switch over to another channel which is exactly what TV networks do not want. I don't think it will last when Five lose viewers in the long run.

That is why its not for the long run, its for 1 week.
Thats why its only for a week, they'll get a boots in viewers for a week, bring curious of his story and what-not, feeling good for not being judgemental ect, and then the genuine people that suport it, I'd love to, but I don't like 5 news.
