**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

I doubt you'd actually miss any content through evil choices though. What you are doing is missing the RPG of the year by prevaricating ;)

Too true.

I haven't bought an RPG since Neverwinter Nights2 (what a dissapointment)

I held out for this and it's worth every cent.

Best game I've played in a long time. The game could be a bit longer, but I'm sure it'll get some decent expansions like the others did :D

Also DA:O was voted best RPG of the decade I think. :D

Yeah, the whole story is basically you sacrificing your previous life to be a Grey Warden, who's job it is to protect from the bad guys.

The leeway comes in the whole 'end justifies the means' approach, and there's plenty of evidence in the game of wardens who did just that, but you'll still end up the hero.

I'm hoping its going to be the best Roleplay game that I've played for several decades !

Just dont want to RP as a goody goody, I spend my whole life watching what I say and think and do and behave in a politically correct manner. Why would I want to RP that as well ! When I RP , I like to be the person I would like to be...so I like to RP as a bad guy :D

From the last few posts it at least sounds as if there is some scope to play a darker character. I'm hoping the game isnt too restrictive in the scope of roleplay. To date, the only computer games I have found that allow me the ability to actually roleplay as a bad guy are MMOs (specifically UO, most other MMOs dont really allow the bad guy approach). Hoping that DA will allow me some room for some darker roleplay.

Well a friend of mine tells me he had to kill of one his good party members, she attacked him because of something he did, so it certainly looks like you can be enough of a git if you try hard enough :)

You can certainly be a pain about saving the world, but no evil genius in his right mind hinges his plans on the entire world being overrun by an unstoppable dark horde. Tombstone, think Raistlin in the Twins trilogy - destroying evil, sure, but not necessarily for the right reasons.

I don't think of it in terms of good/evil but more like Mass Effect Paragon/Renegade.

The former tries to make everyone happy and stays within the boundaries of the law, leading by example.

The later does whatever it takes to get job done and is more that willing to step a few toes, to put it lightly.

Such a long thread, so much confused.

OK, I'd like this clarified: As far as I've understood it, I pay for the hardcopy boxed version in a store, install and register the game on-line and then HAVE TO PAY AGAIN FOR SOME DLC TO GET THE COMPLETE PACKAGE???

Is this true? Surely not, if it were there'd be a great rumpus which doesn't seem to be happening, Is this a rumour then, or what is the actual situation?

I've been thinking about it as much more freeform, to facilitate the RPG experience. I've been playing through the dwarf commoner origin (nearly finished the game now) and pretty much every decision I make is coloured by that - I always find myself picking the options of a lowly peasant thrust into armour way too big for him. I'd need to run through a human noble story to bring out the paragon of righteousness in my conversations, probably one of the elves for the petty point-scoring digs and a mage for overwhelming arrogance. The origins come back to you so many times through the game that you can't really forget about it, and it's coloured the way I play - all for the better, in my opinion.

The only DLC you need to pay for is Wardens Keep and thats £5.

If you buy the collectors edition, any version online or hardcopy, you get all DLC included.

If you use the character creator, you get some items. Separate to the collectors edition.

You also have the mini flash game which can produce 3 more items. Separate to the collectors edition.

These are all linked to the account you register your main cdkey with.

You need to be logged in, while in the game to access the DLC.

Basically, yes. The game out of the box is quite complete mind you, the extra stuff is in no way vital to your enjoyment of the game - there's supposedly about 100 hours of gameplay without it. It's not really any different than Fallout and it's DLC.

They're really just preying on this 'I don't have the full package' mentality to entice you into buying it.

Shale + Wardens Keep are very very worth it.

The only thing that annoyed me about Warden's Keep was the fact that the keep itself is bloody well locked once you finish the quest!

Still thought it was a very well done little adventure, but I'd have spent more time exploring everything if I'd known it wasn't going to be accessible afterwards. The game has a habit of doing things like that on you without warning, I missed the dog the first time around purely because I talked to Duncan before the kennelmaster.

Am I right in thinking that Stone Prisoner comes with the game?

How large is Wardens Keep (in MB)? How exactly does it work when you "buy" it? Do you need to leave the game and download it and then continue or can it background download while you continue with other things in the game?

I think Warden's Keep was about 350MB. You're taken out of the game to a webpage to buy it, then it downloads in-game in the background. There's only an evening's play in it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the insight it gave into the wardens history. I think, playing a bad guy character, you'd get a particular kick out of it.

Stone Prisoner isn't included with the retail standard version. Think the Steam one does have it though.

Ah ..darn it. Thought Stone Prisoner was in the normal version too. Just ordered the normal one. Doh.

40% of game done and the group I've settled on is me(champion shield warrior), Shale, Dog, and Wynne. I'm playing on hard and every battle can be won by charging in with my warrior, popping war cry and taunt and then letting the goons (shale and dog) run about bashing everyone. I did enjoy playing with morrigan but she requires so much micromangement to ensure she doesnt freeze my whole group solid... this way I can beat all but the hardest battles without pausing.

My retail version came with both it and Dragon Blood Armour for free.

As does every new purchase of the game - boxed, digital, standard or whatever. Finding it difficult to believe people are still giving out incorrect info regarding the DLC.

I guess EA/Bioware are partly to blame for calling the free stuff - Blood Dragon Armour and The Stone Prisoner DLC in the first place and seperating it from the standard game.
