I'm saying goodbye to spit and sawdust after 30 years of lifting :D Brand new state-of-the-art gym openning 10 mins from where I live. Anybody have any experience of the latest DW fitness gyms/kit.

30 years of lifting? Jaysus, either you're huge, or you've reached equilibrium, or both!

I've had a few upsets/ illnesses & accidents in between. But I have been both.;)

I kinda like spit and sawdust gyms...
Hehe I actually turned the last one down because access was through a fire escape 20 foot high and I knew in Winter or on a heavy legs day I would end up killing myself.

I would imagine if your serious about your lifting you may grow to hate your new gym if its just one of the usual commerical ones

I've hated some professional bodybuilding gyms due to their being nothing but concrete for flooring and air conditioning consisted of sticking your head through a window to breath. I also hated some of those places because they are usually full of steroid popping retards too afraid to do any hard work or too willing to cheat.

Edit: All I'm interested in is the equip..... I went to look at the one in Macclesfield and that was fine-no shortage of anything and I was told the new one openning near me was ment to be a "showcase" for the latest and best. (I hope so).

Weird sentiments if you have been lifting for 30 years, but each to their own. Good luck in the new gym.

Its not all negative as I have had some good times and met some great people. Just do not believe in taking drugs along with the attitude involved at simply being a member of The Powehouse. Infact when I started in 1978 the only gyms available were spit and sawdust (Olympic health Studio, Future Bodies., 21st Century leisure- Popeyes, The PowerHouse-all Stoke-on-Trent) Perhaps I have mistakenly conveyed the wrong impression or at least not been clear enough? Thankyou for your comment :)

Spit and Sawdust?
Old abandoned factories (at least for me).

My gym is in a factory from 1904 or something like that, real spit and sawdust, but I love it. Yes most regulars are on steroids but so what? If you don't want to take them that's fine but your post seemed to acknowledge their achievements very begrudgingly. Sorry but I just hate that attitude as one of the most hardworking guys I know is a "user" and the idea that everyone is a slacker as soon as they decide to take it to the next level pees me off.

http://www.bankeyfields.co.uk/images/tunstall-powerhouse-gym sounds similar to this. I understand what you are saying and I might have known that somebody-namely yourself would pick me up with an example of a guy taking steroids who is one of the most hardworking guys you know. I don't have any problem with this on a personal level as presumably this guy has made an informed choice. My problem is with the guys who come in all attitude, no work and all drugs. I'd like to know what it is about the guy in your example that makes him feel that he needs to take drugs though or what it is about a guy who prefers not to take things the "natural" way.

It does look similar although yours seems more upmarket- carpet on the floor, windows intact, newer equipment and a shower curtain??? haha...
There is one reason why people who aren't retards (I fully acknowledge that a lot of users are, by the way, just not all by any stretch of the imagination) take steroids- to compete in untested federations. It doesn't matter how hard you work, how hard you train eat sleep, or how long you have been at it. Get up on stage peeled and the guy next to you on a gram of test, (not going into anything else here as its frowned upon) everything else being equal will destroy you, simple as that.

It must be the shiny metal fire exit/entrance round the back and upstairs :D

Yes there is that and I daresay the rest of the planet will all be gene doping in the next twenty years anyway. As for me well i'll just count myself lucky enough to be able to do what I am doing.
