I've worked in a petrol station part time for 3 years I do 2 days a week 10 hours on a Thursday and 7 hours on a Sunday these days are my partners only days off and the only days I can work.

Just lately my boss has become a right pain, asking me to do hours I can't do and moaning when I say no. Now I think he's trying to get rid of me to find someone else who can do the hours.

We stay 15mins at the end of the shift to count the till and lock up etc. Last week he knocked the 15mins off my shift sheet for some reason the only one I can think of is I left at 10.05pm, I'm very good at getting locked up fast. We also don't get paid this 15mins when we are on holiday as it's extra and not contracted.

I'm a bit of a hot head and I don't want to go to work tomorrow and tell him to insert the job into his backside but I have a feeling I will.
If I'm not getting paid to lock up do i have the right to walk out at 10pm sharp?

Just a small rant but the guy is being so petty.

Tell him you just don't care.

You are paid to work in a petrol station. Getting the job done or working fast are not of your concern.
Managers in retail are usually thick as a post anyway.

When I worked at Tesco, I clocked in, looked stupid on a till or on trolleys all day then clocked out. I worked fairly hard, but whether the work was finished or not I didn't care, home time is home time when paid hourly.

(Any comments I make are from what I saw when I worked in a Supermarket part time for 3 years and saw all sorts of stupid managers who thought they were someone special).

EDIT: I had to work fairly hard as I transfered a lot to and from stores for uni, so if I was poo they wouldn't want me back. I had the displeasure of working at Meir Tesco in Stoke on nights in summer 2008 and I was made to stay later one morning (unpaid). Needless to say the union nearly killed him and I took the time back in double on breaks.

I would look at your contract mate to be honest... too see if you have any buzz words like 'reasonable' in it...

Everyones job can be like that mate, just have to bare with it, I am suppose to work 7am - 3pm I rarely get home for 8pm, its part of the job... and I'm glad that I have one in the current climate....

Yeah I'm glad to be working, but like I say I've been doing this job for 3 years and only now does he start to check what time I'm leaving.

17 hours a week? You call that a job? I did more than that when i was 14 doing a paperound.

Why do you work so little?

EDIT : reread info on your post. Why can you only work on her days off?

TBH i wouldnt want you working for me if you could only do 17 hours a week.

I hate it when managers make you feel guilty for not doing overtime... I don't want my job to be my life... If they want the work done, they can work their days off and get it done!

Same here, my manager seems surprised when I say I don't want to work an extra saturday after already doing a 5 day week. I like some time to myself thanks!

It was like this when I worked for Halfords. There's usually some clause in your contract stating your willing to put in extra hours etc bla bla that they catch you up on. We used to just start shutting up earlier and get away as quick as possible.

Tell him if he isn't going to pay you then you're not staying to lock up. Simple as. If he sacked you you could probably take it to tribunal if you wanted.
It's not unreasonable for them to ask you to do it every now and then, but every shift is taking the mick. That's an hours pay a fortnight you're missing out on. If you were doing 5 day weeks you'd be losing two and a quarter hours a week!

Probably part of the contract though. When my partner worked in retail her hours (paid) were 9-5.30, however, they had to be there at 8.30 to put the displays out and stay until 5.45 to put the displays away. Gay.

Then surely the store hours are 9-5.30 but your wife's job is 8.30-5.45? That's a lot of unpaid hours she's missing out on!
