It's to prove it's freshness which is 'extremely' important to people obsessed with fresh fish! Obviously it's impossible for a fish to move like that if it's been dead for a day or two.

No, but getting at it is sure to cause pain and the whole experience for the monkey would be absolutely horrific.

That said, I'm also faily sure this is not factual and is some kind of urban legend as mentioned. It crops up in a Chris Morris program which kind of furthers the likelyhood of it being fake as everything else in that program was fake. I sure hope so anyhow.

The best known 'live monkey brain eating' is in the 'Faces of Death' or 'Mondo Cane' films, or maybe in both.
As I recall it's a group of diners round a table with a hole in it, the monk' is placed under the table in a cage with its head poking through and they bash its head in and scoop out the brains.
But... it isn't real! Clever fakery as with certain other scenes in these movies.
Not that people don't eat monkey brains and stuff, but this (I think) is what many people remember seeing, or being told about, when the subject comes up.

I felt sick watching that, that's disgusting, poor thing, maybe only a fish but it does not deserve that.

I know there is much worse things humans do, but still, I can't believe some people could do this, especially poking it and laughing, if I where there I'd probs try to put it out of it's misery ASAP.
