I passed my driving test today, got 3 minors but it was my 3rd test I failed for silly reasons last time! I am so pleased that it's all over with. Got my astra 1.6 insured for £1800 so not to bad but still silly! Any tips to driving I hear this is where the real learning begins.

Thanks Phil

Congrats!!!. Stay safe and try not to wrap it round a lamp post. :)

My friend learnt that the hard way went round a rounderbout at 55mph and lost the backend with me in the car! Luckly the airbag saved us. Insurance companys just laugh at him now, It slowed me down a lot. I have been on the road because I passed my full bike test a few months ago but it's nice to be warm in the winter!

How old is the Astra? £1800 seems steep even for a 17yr old who's just passed! (and I'm not sure if you are only 17 yet!). I paid in the region of £600 insurance for an Astra "G" 1.6 when I first passed.

2001, astra 1.6 mk4. It was the same to insure a nissan sunny! About 6 months ago it was around £1000 then prices went crazy! My dad can insure it for £103 fully comp! I am a 17 year old male good postcode etc and it's still 1800!

don't treat speed limits like targets!
but bear in mind people who drive under the limit are often of great annoyance.

drive at a speed you feel is right for the conditions
absolutely

And leave the showing off to the professionals.
The professionals had to start somewhere eh ;)

why would you want to do that? What I said is perfectly reasonable, the cheeky wink smiley surely is enough to express I wasn't seriously suggesting he went out and showed off his wkd driving sklz to his mates. Also the fact of the matter is if you drive below the limit you will get tailgated on most roads. Tailgating drivers get red mist and are highly likely to perform a stupid/dangerous overtake. That would put you in a dangerous situation, which basically you would have triggered yourself.

Looks like I wont be able to afford a car :(.

Getting £16000 quotes from several places for a £700 car .

I only had £2500 saved up for a car and insurance.

Oh well. Looks like public transport for the rest of my life.

im 21 and my insurance quotes are at a minimum £1500, bad postcode i must admit but i dont know if anyone else has found this but.

insurance group 1 = £1500 Fully Comp 68bhp
insurance group 9 = £2100 Fully Comp 130bhp

i know which id rather pay lol
