*** Arrriving Monday *** Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X 1024MB @ £399.99 inc VAT

PrincessFrosty I am wondering whether they are going to reply regarding 5970 preorder question, its been bothering me for some time now.;)

Is this shortage artificial? If so, I cannot see wth ATI is doing holding cards back and hiking up prices to this ridiculous £400 barrier. One would think it's an ideal chance for them to flood the top end users with ATI cards and not just a few here and there.

I think this is whats called a soft launch. It's intentional.

It is not intentional..tsmc are having isues with their manufacturing..its been well documented in past threads and in an interview on rage3d.

Ok, I may stand corrected with it being intentional. But its still a soft launch which means stock will only filter through, there wont be enough to go round.

A soft launch is them announcing the card and date when its available (so many weeks or days after the announcemnt), last i checked people have been able to buy the cards so it was by no means a soft launch.

By a few more quid you actually mean 130-150 ish right?

Me personally i'd absolutely love one of these but they're just a tad bit too expensive for me right now. Large props to OCUK for getting them in again. Im sure OCUK have a special connection with Sapphire or something ;)

My pre order was £443, prices are fluctuating as stock comes in/out, a smart shopper will know when to pounce, needs a bit of etailer camping though I got mine about 5mins after they hit the e-shelves and about 15 minutes after ordering the price went up :)

No you couldnt, however you could have put yourself on a waiting list of unsepcified length to get one at some time in the future.

The date was on the order, the 27th, the preorders were limited by amount so obviously these cards are reserved.

Are you talking about my post on another forum? If so, I don't think that will happen again, there's no way they're getting random surges of available stock this time around, still it's troubling.

Has anyone seen a decent review comparing overclocks, temps and noise between standard and vapor-x 5870's?

What's interesting is that Sapphire only put a $10 premium on the rrp over the base model, so certainly some gouging going on here.

The stupid thing about the vapor-x is it has the same CCC overclock limits as all 5870.

So it will overclock exactly the same as all 5870 to 900 core, maybe a bit more on the ram than a standard 5870 but I doubt it.

What you need to do is flash it with the asus bios so you can overclock it more.

It is a crime Sapphire havent upped the o/c limits on this card.

the normal 5870's are really quiet anyways, its not like the stock 4800 series. I was worried they were going to be really loud but its just not the case.

£60 cheaper else where, although theres no guarantee they'll ever get them in stock
