Absolutely furious with ASUS for supplying the wrong SATA cables.

If you want, drop me a PM with the details and I'll see what I can do from the ASUS UK office. I'm sure we have some SATA cables around that don't clip. :)

Hi, thanks for the offer but I can't PM you as you need 250 posts. I should be getting some cables tomorrow. If not i'll get in touch.

I bought a P6TD and had the same problem i also can't beleive the stupid positioning of the sata ports, depending on case you might have a real job getting the right cables to fit as i did :(

If i known about the sata ports i would have bought the gigabyte.

The old style cables aren't so easy to get any more... and as I said unless you've run into this problem yourself you prolly won't understand it - so I'm not suprised OcUK sent the wrong cables :|

It looks like I have the same problem too. I've not actually assembled the PC yet, but I definitely have mismatching cables and sockets. I'm pretty sure I've got some spares without clips kicking about, but it's still a silly and rather irritating mistake on the part of Asus.

This is my only complaint with the p6t dlx v2 board, 2 of the 4 sata ports on the edge of the board are badly blocked by my gtx 280.

Did the OP read any reviews of his board before he ordered as most show the box contents

You don't realise the SATA block doesn't have space for the SATA-II retention clips tho until you've bought it - unless thats brought up in a review...

Unfortunatly its a bit of a tricky one to explain as even most technically minded people would assume that the motherboard manufacturer would get the cables right and a lot don't even realise there is any difference to SATA ports.

Thankfully i only use one of those ports for my dvd drive, my 2 hdd's are connected to the 2 ports below the fan on the graphics card, theese are the 2 ports that face upwards. On the port that the dvd drive is connected to its just about manageable to attach the cable from behind via the hole in the mobo tray, saves having to remove the vid card.

They work in a computer shop - oh, yes, I see now:rolleyes:

The complaint is that he was supplied with sata cables that don't fit the board, owing to a subtle revision in cables between version 1 and 2 and Asus dropping the ball. Upon informing ocuk of this, they sent him another set of cables of the wrong version. What part of that doesn't suggest ignorance to you?

Specifically lack of knowledge of the change in cabling leading to incompatibilities. Even when informed of this by the OP.

The other conclusion to draw is that ocuk doesn't care, said conclusion drawn by the OP, which is incompatible with them bothering to send out any cables at all. What're you rolling your eyes at me for?

Ah right i see now, to be honest id prefer cables without clips. I had one with clips rip the sata socket off thre mobo a year or two ago.

Do you think OCUK would be kind enough to send me some free cables? I don't want to shell out 20 quid on SATA cables!!

post a thread in customer support and RMA
call it:

'rjkoneill, sort me out with some SATA cables'

include your address and order details and i will get some out to you :)

As I said I consider myself fairly clued up tech wise... and I'd have been completely oblivious to the problem except for the fact I've run into it myself with my EVGA board - if someone was telling me on the phone the sata cables that came with their motherboard don't fit the motherboard - I'd send them some nice shiny new SATA II cables... to explain this really needs some good images and documentation unless the other party happens to be already somewhat aware.

I also had no idea that this problem existed, thankfully i was supplied with the correct non latching cables, but as i wasnt intending to use theese i had to check the black cables id got on mm to ensure theese were non latching.

My GA-P35C-DS3R was supplied with latching cables, yet the SATA ports are together in such a way that if you actually use them, the latches face each other and block each other's use. The only way to get them out is to stick a credit card between them to release the latch.
