I don't think people need to argue back and forth about what he said or whether what he said was wrong or acerbic... People make mistakes, and even if he didn't make a mistake is there any need for name calling and ignoring?

I think not.

Some people need to get out of tiny skulls once in a while and understand that their perception is just that, a perception, a point of view and stop acting like they're the center of the frigging universe. It gets old fast.

It depends how people take it. you said:
"What's the reason for this post?"
which could either be read:
1) "Why have you bothered to post about this?"
2) "What is this thread about?"

IMO, number 1 is more offensive (and that is what i thot you meant when you posted that). From your follow-up comments its obvious that you meant it like number 2 (which is maybe why some people have edited their responses to it?).

Either way, both can be seen as offensive.

You don't get my point at all.

To me, it's the equivalent of running down a street full of people you don't know telling them something personal about your life that they have no involvement in.

My opinion is that he should be telling the people who matter, not those he doesn't know.
 
when something great happens its pretty much human nature to want to let the world know. hes not the first person and wont be the last

im sure the people closest too him already knew . he even points out that he is just passing time in a post on the first page

the forum is like a community to many people anyway. its good to hear good news and its good to share it

Ok - thanks everyone for their take on this. I genuinely felt a bit shocked at the response I got from the people in the 'Labour' thread.

I can see that my original 'what's the reason for this post' response was wrong as it wasn't what I intended to say. Semantics. I would have thought my responses following that statement would have made my ignorance fairly clear?

To be called a 'douchebag' and other slamming was a bit hard though.Tell me to go and read another thread - or just that the guy was expecting his 1st child would have been enough.

For those who said that the context was 'obvious' from the thread title - well I can only disagree.
 
I can see why you would be confused by the thread Title, however it was all made clear in the 11th post. ;)

I initially thought Politics so i didnt even read the thread as Politics dont interest me. I only read it via your post and but to me all was kind of clear within the first few post and confirmed by the 11th.

One thing ive learnt from these forums is dont always believe you will be cut any slack and think people will understand where you were coming form.

Sometimes they just want to rip your arms off and stick em in your ears :D

Like i said, it depends on how they have interpreted your post. It was unclear after your first post what you meant. At first, i thot your post meant that you didnt think the childbirth was important and you were questioning why the OP bothered to post about it. Obviously i know understand that you meant something different but at the time, i would probably have considered "douchebag" an appropriate response.

I didnt understand either but if you had read the thread, several people had explained what was going on.

You don't even need to disagree, it WAS obvious, but what they're not understanding (nor NOT obvious to them) is that obvious doesn't apply or work in the same way for everyone, and what's obvious to me, for example, might not be obvious to some one else for certain reasons.
 
The problem with your post is that the OP had already come back and explained his ambiguous title/post, so yours comes across as "why tell us your wife/girlfriend is having your baby?" rather than "what's the thread about?". It's really a good idea to read the whole thread if you don't understand the first post as someone will generally explain it at some point.
