opinions on doing this

Yeah, I have noticed this a lot recently. What's with the car snobbery?

I have always been on the side of tastefull mods and have never liked anything which is garish or OTT but seriously, since when did Motors have an accepted level of what can be worked on or not?

It's the owners choice and I am sure most of us would question spending £xxxx on a rot box but it's a tidy enough looking fiesta and de-tangoing is what most of us would do on any car worth more than 50 pence anyway.

I had my Focus for 5 years and clearing the orange was cheap, easy and did not affect re-sale at all. It sold within 2 weeks from a dealer when I chopped it in.

Its not about car snobbery, its about not seeing the point as i do not find the orange to be an issue when it comes to a car which looks as the fiesta does anyway...

I guess i just dont see the point in paying a fiesta attention above and beyond maintenance

How is that not snobbery?

It's only a fiesta so keep it running but lol @ you if you spend anything else on it

Ok, you don't have an issue with orange lenses/bulbs, but many of us do. It's probably one of the most common/cheap/effective mods going. Fox had a whole thread for changing his gearknob ffs :p

I guess i just dont see the point in paying a fiesta attention above and beyond maintenance and cleaning until the time comes to upgrade. Doesnt look like i am the only one either :)

Of course, but as a young lad you see things differently with a first car. I filled my cars with a sound system as it was what I was in to at the time, and shared the install experience with friends and vice versa.

I don't see it as snobbery, just opinion. As long as mods are reversible, there's nothing lost if that's what you like to do. I don't agree with irreversible mods to a car like that, but it's just my opinion. Most things can be put back to standard. It's like Fox and his new gearknob, it's a personal upgrade but not completely necessary, but that's what he wanted to do.

Exactly, and mine is that there is no point as it doesnt add anything to the car. Fox's gearknob is no different although i am not sure why he gets dragged into every argument! :)

He was the 2nd reply saying "I don't see the point" yet was quick to come at people in his Knob thread that if they did not like the idea/see the point they should have not come in/read.

Thats not usually fox's angle, so i dont know why he would have put that. His angle would usually be (as mine is) that if you post on a public forum then you need to accept all the comments you get good and bad.

He has a car that is more respecable in the OcUK motors community than the OPs Fiesta and recently did something to it in a similar vein. In no way a personal dig at Fox, but things can come across a little two-faced with these things. I'm not saying they are, clearly people see it more beneficial on a car with more pedigree, I persoanlly don't mind. I like Foxes new knob and I like the OPs idea as I've seen it done to good effect on the same car. Fox just made a good example that's all.

The orange reflector is just removed to get the de-tango look and it does clean the front end up nicely. There is risk the lights will never seal back up properly or you melt them in the oven.

If you're in to moddinga nd want to play about, then go for it. People will say there isn't much point, but then modding cars will always have that reaction. It's a personal thing and if you like it, do it :)

That about sums up what I was going to say.

I'll be doing the same to my car tomorrow, except all I have to do is open it up, whip out the sheet of orange reflective material, then put it back together again, with a new bulb of course.

Getting rid of the tango is a cheap and subtle mod to any car, I don't think it looks boy-racerish at all. However, the OP has to do quite a lot to get his done, I don't know if I'd go to that effort personally.

It's a cheap and easy mod to do that cleans up the front of the car. When it comes to selling you can always get hold of a cheap light cluster from ebay, swap them round and sell the modified set on ebay.

It won't put off buyers and it won't devalue the car, in fact I doubt many people would even notice.

This is a devaluing/off putting mod. What the OP proposes is not.

The difference being I said his mod was pointless not his thread.

When you post about your own car, you invite opinion on the car and what you've done to it, both good and bad. Thats what the forum is for.

The people in my knob thread that I got irritated with where those saying the thread was pointless. I don't remember having a go at anyone who said they didn't think it was a worthwhile modification, and if I did, then I was wrong.

IMO just de-tangoing looks good but seems like a lot of effort to do, if it was just a matter of swapping them out then I would go for it. I swapped the ones on my old E46 coupe for BMW clear lenses and it looked miles better. Not sure how it would put off prospective future buyers, hardly looks like it's been attacked by a chav!

Its a fiesta ?

Seriously i spent around 6k on a 1.4 golf and i regret every bit of it. Not only did i look like a chav, drove like a chav to hear my loud exhaust, I also wasted so much money making it "unique" that when i sold it i only managed to get £300 for it. Granted it had a few ciggy holes in the cloth seats etc.

Yes, but he's hardly talking about spending 6k here, he's wanting to potentially freshen the car up a bit within it's OEM state. De-tangoing your lights != loud zaust, banging system and "unique" taste of styling.

How long did you keep a £6000 golf for it to have only been worth £300 when you sold it  That doesnt make any sense, even totally completely knackered golf's go for £1000+
