I know i know my own fault, BUT was a mobile van parked in the sneakiest sliest spot possible.

Theres a country A road with a short 40mph stretch, it goes past some houses set right back from the road, but these houses are in a little lay by type road right next to the main road. This road has a big 8ft high fence running probably 100m along separating it from the main road. Just after the fence stops the limit goes back to national speed limit.

The van was parked right next to the fence with a perfect view going up the 60mph bit, obviously waiting for people like me to speed up to 60 before the actual sign :( b******s!!!

Also the annoying bit is I have just moved house and haven't got around to sending off my change of address form on the reg document yet. So no doubt it will get sent to my old address and I probably wont even know about it for ages

I thought there was some kind of law where they had to be in plain sight, or is that just the fixed speeding cameras?

Fair enough if I was speeding in a built up area, but in a hidey hole just before a national speed limit is without honour :(

If the van can see all the way into the NSL, how does the cam know where the speed limit changes?

As they are parked in a road running parallel with the A road, with a verge + fence inbetween they probably have it at an angle which dissects the road up until it hits NSL :(

Probably. If I was you I'd go get a redirection sorted out tomorrow.

best bet would be to send a polite letter to your old address asking them to inform you should anything official arrive for you.

ive seen many arrive alive speed camera vans over the past few weeks and whilst they might be called sneaky by some for parking on the sides of the roads etc surely our observation skills should be good enough to spot the big white van before we are right on top of it
also at the end of the day if we (meaning drivers) didnt break the law by speeding we wouldnt get tickets for it

lol - i got completely flamed by loads of self righteous pillocks on this site when i got done for doing 34 in a 30 by a hidden van. Apparently my complaining about it warranted copious amounts of abuse from the high horse, im perfect, brigade.

Ive give you about 5mins before this happens to you.

Shouldn't have been speeding.

Bam! That was much less than 5 minutes.

You can get Royal Mail to redirect post for a few months if you haven't changed them all yet.

I think the point is that breaking a speed limit doesn't automatically make you a bad driver or a danger on the road. :)

How come? Surely if you're speeding your stopping distances are longer and thinking time shorter, and so if someone crosses the road in front of you, you have less time to stop or avoid them?

Because millions of people speed every day, and no kittens, children, or women die.

And people who stick to the speed limits still end up in accidents where there are fatalities.

Shocking isn't it.

Well that's just not true. I'd like to see stats on this, but I would think lots of avoidable accidents involve excess speed, and there are plenty of fatalities on the road each day.

Just because other accidents happen when people aren't speeding doesn't mean it's not dangerous to speed. I have no doubt that it increases your chances of causing or being involved in an accident, which is the point you're really disputing here.

Of course, in no way does what you're saying remotely justify doing it.
