hey just thought to revive this thread I'm looking for a kinship.

I am casual gamer perhaps 3-4 nights one week then a week off that kind of thing but if something's planned and doesn't require a 6:30 start then I can play (main reason for giving up on WOW even smaller instances could take hours to play) I'm mature (30+) but willing to fill out an app.

I have a 15 char on laurelin but could change if ness.

Anyway if anyone is still playing it give me a shout. Even the official LOTRO forums recruitment pages are VERY quiet :(
 
Just grabbing the welcome back week trial to give it a shot. I remember playing this before Mines of Moria came out, but not really getting into it as I was hooked on DDO at the time.

So, are there any kinships of OcUK players around?
 
Woo welcome back weekend, had already pre ordered the new expansion but let my sub run out because I've been pretty busy and wasn't worth it for a hour or so a week I would have played it, but was going to resub within the next week or so, so good timing and a free week for me.
 
Ok, kicking around on Snowbourn atm having a bit of a blast it has to be said - "seems" easier and theres more flow to the quests than the last time I gave it a shot.

I have come back for the welcome back week on my awesome lvl 25 rune Keeper :p Im on Laurelin(sp) though! The quests probably seem to flow easier because most of the lower lvl fellowship quests have been nerfed to help solo play as there isn't a lot of new/low lvl players now!
 
I want to come back for the welcome back week but I don't have the discs to install it. Instead of downloading the full client I can just use a mates disc later today, so in preparation, is this the patch I need?
 
I found a stickied post on the LOTRO forums that had a Bittorrent download of the latest MoM client. Despite the 6 seeds and 4 peers, I was downloading at a nice 650KB/s odd on my 10meg Virgin connection.

I got up and running in a couple of hours.

I would suggest people stay away from the Codemasters hosted trial client download. I was getting an abysmal 20-30KB/s download speed!

On a seperate note, I don't think a weeks play is enough to make up my miond over this.

On the positive hand - it's very pretty and makes good use of my rig, the quests seem easy enough to get through without severe grinding and the story elements are nice to follow. The crafting system also seems very nice.

On the negative hand - It feels very like WoW, especially combat with its auto attack and click-a-skill system. There seems to be social element going on for me at the moment in the starter areas.

What also makes me think twice before giving up is my 3 years of experience with DDO. Also, thinking of re-rolling to Laurelin for the RP element, something that was sore missing from my DDO experience.

Would really be nice to get together some of you before the weeks up to see if Fellowship quests and kinships are what make this game (Im guessing so).

PS What made me give up on DDO was the high end / end content players being an elitist bunch of bores. I'd love to get more into the storyline and a kinship than *must-grind-raid-night-after-night* syndrome :)
 
Laurelin is pretty good for the RP stuff. A lot of people don't bother of course, but there seem to be quite a few guilds who's sole purpose is to muck around doing rp stuff. You regularly come across them at it in Bree - it was really refreshing to walk into the Prancing Pony and see it crowded with people dancing and talking in character and the like, as opposed to just rushing in to train and turn in quests.
 
Wanted to have a quick blast this morning but I can't log in. It's telling me my password is wrong, it also won't send me a password reset email. Is there something wrong with the servers today and does the pass reset email take a while to come through?
