Thinking of apple 3Gs... stop me!!

I am very tempted to get an iphone tomorrow, but my phone is only a year old and is well specced. But the iphone looks like so much fun lol.

My phone is the Samsung I8510 (Innov8)

Everwhere I go people have Iphones - that being said there are alwasy people who dont like a certain product for whatever reason.

The Iphone is a great bit of kit and 99.9% who have it - love it. Obviously I havent canvassed every owner but I havent heard a bad thing about them from anybody who has one - its selling like crazy so it cant be bad.

but so many ppl like them, is that all advertising, i know apple are dam good at it and they do look nice, but i want substance more than style, it will be in my pocket 80% of the time!

They're shiney and made by Apple - enough said.

The good thing about expensive items (for the company) is that people are reluctant to point out their faults after spending so much. My best friend has a Macbook Pro and still bums Apple despite the fact that he's had an endless list of issues over the past two years, while my PC has had none.

Advertising does work :p.

The screen resolution of it puts me off, for some reason, everytime I think "I'll just buy an iPhone and be done with it" I always discard it because of the lower screen resolution in comparison to other phones.

I'm not sure is this is silly or not yet.

screen res is just fine.... sure would like it higher but it's perfect for the screen size.

in landscape mode safari browser views these forums full width and still readable... thats pretty good going for any mobile device.

best of all it runs super fast all the time, no slow down, no lag.. everything is silky smooth... and i came form a omnia, which on paper should be as good but it just isnt

fun wise you can't beat the iphone, i've never been addicted to a game on a phone, but geodefence is worth the phone alone ;)

ok, everyone seems to have one but does that matter?, over hyped ?, maybe... but with 22 million other users your never going to be short on support, apps and you know it's going to be quality, which I think the device oozes

I think the iPhone's a relatively good phone. The main (but not only) reason I could never get it is because I simply don't want a phone that has a worse camera than the phone I had 3 years ago.

My main gripe with it is that 99% of people that have it have no need for it whatsoever. I also generally don't like Apple's attitude, ie everything's made by them, nothing or no-one else can get a look in or change anything etc.

How Microsoft get fined by the EU for including IE with Windows and yet Apple get away with some of the things they do I have NO idea.

Edit: And what other company apart from Apple would launch a multi-million international campaign announcing their phone can now copy and paste, a good few years after everyone else's could? Another reason why I like HTC for their "quietly brilliant" slogan. Apple's should be "loudly ****" :D.

I dunno, I like the closed platform tbh, it suits a phone. it means the thing doesnt really crash... and hell all my old winmo phones have crashed constantly.

life is too short for something that is unreliable, when I want my push email I just want to read it.. dont want lag, hangs, etc etc....

in a way apples closing of the whole iphone has made it a more solid product

im officially now a fanboy lol

So no one who has one hates them and no one who hasnt got one wants one lol..

Ok then...

i think i need to get orange france to let me have one for a week then the other lol.. Fat chance!

Still everyone over here has the iphone and only seen 1 other without the iphone so far, doesnt mean its good, but with so many users its hard to ignore.

No matter how much i really dont want one lol!

ill go check the blackberries and the htc again tomorrow..

;)

I agree that the iphone seems to be everywhere at the minute. Sometimes it's good to be different :D

And just because something is really popular doesn't necessarily mean it is actually good. I'm willing to bet, like the iPod that most people who bought an iPhone didn't actually test out any of the other phones on the market, they just went for the one that was popular at the time. Yes popularity has something to do with a good product but it also has a massive part to do with advertising and Apple are the masters at that.

I've used all three models of iPhone and i can conclusively say that this is simply pure pablum. it's simply not true in the slightest. every-time I've used an iPhone or iTouch I've gotten annoyed to the point of blackout-inducing rage at the slowdowns, freezes, jitters and judders, not to mention the fact that they fundamentally can't do things that my £60 E61 from 2004 could do the day it was released.

also, any device that forces you to use a program that fails to install 4 out of 5 tries (iTunes, in case you were wondering) to put media on the device, while simultaneously forcing you to wait while it converts your music from high-quality lossless WAVs to 160Kb/s AAC's (and it's totally CLUELESS about flac), not to mention that you've got to manually convert any sort of video from high-efficiency .avi's to the ludicrously crap .mp4 just to import them into the PROGRAM, deserves to be blown to smithereens with shaped charges.

Ive got a HD2 :)
love the phone.

Better then the iphone in most things, although the battery life can be an issue (due to the big screen) and the windows market place is just... embaressing (when comparing it to the apple store) However, this can be excused as the phone was just released ( Nov 11?)

Time will tell.

Got it on tmobile, £35/monthly. Factory unlocked \o/

Amp34, is that the iphone?

If it was 35 euros here and phone free, id go for it, but its going to be 200 euros for the phone and then 60 euros a month, why i want advice really as its a lot of money to spend.

But im enjoying the thread, good views on both sides and nothing to personal yet, what i wanted and expected.

Aowc02, what do you love about the hd2 then? anythign part stand out?

- I've never had any slow down on 3gs

- I've never had a app fail to install instantly

- Do you really need FLAC lossless audio on a phone ?, way over the top for something with limited storage.

- Never really use phone as media player, but I have converted a few divx's and they run just fine. Not as good as my Omnia which could play any Divx movie you throw at it.. but tbh, never once watched the movies on phone.

- What did you do extra special on E61 ?... the thing is, it's just a phone at end of day, simplicity is the key unless you have time to tinker for hours on end. I used to love that when I was younger, but now I'm a old git I just want simple functionality. It's all about user experience, and a E61 is not a very good one by today standards.

My one request from apple that would be reasonable is have a widget home screen. Keep the now infamous simple icon look but have it home back to a widget iface for live feed enabled applets. This IMO would put the iphone back at the top of the pack feature wise.

Ohh a amoled screen covering full face would be nice too :)

I think it has been started to be 'cool' to bash the poor iphone and apple, but at same time many people just buy into the hype. It's still a good device, and is still used as a benchmark for others on most reviews (and I must adds often still wins out). People will bash it though, they see normal people using something and apple doing well it's easy to get into the 'i must be different look I have rooted linux in my pocket i'm uber syndome' (joke)

Once Android 2 really kicks in and matures apple have some serious catchup to do, lets hope they can think outside the box again, which is what they did just over 2 years ago with the 1st gen iphone that reinvented the smartphone for the normal man on the street, smartphones were just for geeks ;)

My ideal phone, probably a 2nd gen hero with a snapdragon cpu, android 2, amoled screen of hd2 mashing res, and a mature android app market with quality programs. Next year there will probably be one :)

I had me bro's Iphone 3G for 4 months and i never had any issues with freezing, slowness or apps not installing would swop with him instantly for my Hero far better phone imo.

Amp34, is that the iphone?

No thats the HD, the hd2 will be the same though. Havent seen an iPhone screenshot of the internet unfortunately, however its quite different as the image and res is around a third of the size. 800px on the long side for the HD means no rearranging of the page is necessary and you just need to scroll down like browsing on a pc (not across).

Very nice..

I take it you have the HD2? if so, found any issues with it? would you buy it again?
