I've used all three models of iPhone and i can conclusively say that this is simply pure pablum. it's simply not true in the slightest. every-time I've used an iPhone or iTouch I've gotten annoyed to the point of blackout-inducing rage at the slowdowns, freezes, jitters and judders, not to mention the fact that they fundamentally can't do things that my £60 E61 from 2004 could do the day it was released.
also, any device that forces you to use a program that fails to install 4 out of 5 tries (iTunes, in case you were wondering) to put media on the device, while simultaneously forcing you to wait while it converts your music from high-quality lossless WAVs to 160Kb/s AAC's (and it's totally CLUELESS about flac), not to mention that you've got to manually convert any sort of video from high-efficiency .avi's to the ludicrously crap .mp4 just to import them into the PROGRAM, deserves to be blown to smithereens with shaped charges.
- I've never had any slow down on 3gs
- I've never had a app fail to install instantly
- Do you really need FLAC lossless audio on a phone ?, way over the top for something with limited storage.
- Never really use phone as media player, but I have converted a few divx's and they run just fine. Not as good as my Omnia which could play any Divx movie you throw at it.. but tbh, never once watched the movies on phone.
- What did you do extra special on E61 ?... the thing is, it's just a phone at end of day, simplicity is the key unless you have time to tinker for hours on end. I used to love that when I was younger, but now I'm a old git I just want simple functionality. It's all about user experience, and a E61 is not a very good one by today standards.
My one request from apple that would be reasonable is have a widget home screen. Keep the now infamous simple icon look but have it home back to a widget iface for live feed enabled applets. This IMO would put the iphone back at the top of the pack feature wise.
Ohh a amoled screen covering full face would be nice too
I think it has been started to be 'cool' to bash the poor iphone and apple, but at same time many people just buy into the hype. It's still a good device, and is still used as a benchmark for others on most reviews (and I must adds often still wins out). People will bash it though, they see normal people using something and apple doing well it's easy to get into the 'i must be different look I have rooted linux in my pocket i'm uber syndome' (joke)
Once Android 2 really kicks in and matures apple have some serious catchup to do, lets hope they can think outside the box again, which is what they did just over 2 years ago with the 1st gen iphone that reinvented the smartphone for the normal man on the street, smartphones were just for geeks
My ideal phone, probably a 2nd gen hero with a snapdragon cpu, android 2, amoled screen of hd2 mashing res, and a mature android app market with quality programs. Next year there will probably be one
