For those of you wondering what the greatest MMO is, please watch this.

I guess the majority in here are either 12 year old or just prefer to play mmo's designed for kids.

Do not want.

Edit: The bigest problem i have with EvE is feeling detached from the combat. It's a very pretty game but boring.

I'm keeping an eye on this

Black Prophecy does sound amazing, I've got high hopes for it. been following it for ages.

also Infinity sounds brilliant too, theirs even a tech demo available with multiplayer component so you can test it.

Great, great game, the ultimate sandbox universe. Unfortunately it's full of people who take it and themselves far too seriously.

Too bad the game isn't like the videos :/ Well it is for the few thousand people in the right alliances and even then, only very rarely. The beginning of the game is just boring and I have never gotten past those first twenty or so hours, however long it lasts.. I don't know.

Once you are playing in 0.0 thats very much how part of the game is played, minus some of the dramatic flair. I think it covers large fleet game play rather well and as you never got that far into the game you would not know that.

Not an MMO, but the upcoming jumpgate evolution game from codies shows promise - that is if they make the online work - unlike a few of their games of late

Thing with Eve is that they make superb video trailers that look so good you wet your self with excitement,

Then you play the game. Its good for a month, then you realise its a total lagfest when there are that kind of fleet battles.

Eve is one of the only MMOs where it felt like a real 2nd life grind to achieve anything remotely fun.

The 3 minutes of "fun" was often encased in endless hours of searching for some poor chumps to stomp all over.

Its waaaay to hard to get into 0.0 action for the average noob (like me)

best MMOs ever without a doubt

UO pre turning ****
SWG pre turning **** (was a good UO copy updated)
DAOC - well it was decent enough pre Vampires - Necros Bonedancers and other stupid pointless classes.

EvE is awesome. I just wish there was more players online.

CCP say "250 thousand players all on the same server", when in reality it's more like 30k (45k weekends) lol.

Terrible game? Play WoW much?

Eve is awesome. The main attraction isnt in the gameplay, as the gameplay can be quite repetitive and boring. its in the community driven aspects of the game - specifically the corporations / guilds / alliances.

the ability for an individual being able, through their efforts, to influence the gameplay of other players is quite gratifying. Especially in the top alliances =).

Like the Hargoth incident for example, where it had huge ramifications across the server (in the terms of pvp combat and prices of goods)

EvE ***.

-_- looking forward to STO though.

Never played eve and always been a bit unsure about it... can always try the trial I guess.

For me though, best MMO was Asherons Call 2! Maybe because it was the first, I dont know, but always wish I still had it (think its offline now anyway?)

When did you last play the game..... fleet battles 1000 v 1000 have been more then playable for months now. Ever since they upgraded the cluster.

It is a second life isn't that what an MMO is all about? Am I missing something here?

This is absolute tosh...You obviously didn't try very hard then

The problem is, those attacks afaik, are few and far between, and unlike in a cutscene where ships were focusing on one target and taking them out, you end up in a chaotic fight, which can be fun. But like with CS:S if you're the first guy to die, you end up pee'd off and a month away from the next major attack.

Its the, literally months of mining you do before you get a decent ship thats completely boring, and the mindless and boring chore that is buying decent mining ships, taking them out, mining, seeing a pirate/enemy player, warping back, switching ships, coming back killing them or scaring them off, or finding another system to mine in, then rinse and repeat for months as your skills train up completely on their own completely not based on how much you use them or what you do.

Ok I haven't played in a good couple years now, maybe a lot of years, but sitting in a mining ship, while waiting weeks for my skills to level up so I would actually have enough money to buy ship and fit it with weapons, honestly, just completely boring.

If you could walk into the game, start off with a decent ship, skills to use weaponry and you can join fights like that all day long, yippee, but you can't and don't and thats where it fails.

personally I'd love to play a single player game based on it, with a superb story, thats ridiculously long and has lots of choreographed battles, starting with an opening sequence where you, I dunno are in the lowest support ship get into a fight and due to the way the story starts are on the losing side and are forced to retreat. Character levels up, moves through the story moves up ships, and ends up taking control of fleets and battles yourself.

This is the issue, if i want to get into a fight in this game, at this stage, you'd never be the guy calling the shots now, coming up with tactics, you'd be the lowest guy in the guild, unless you were in on day one you can't hope to match the money/ships/weapons of other people and its just now an elitist game you really can't get into.

I heard they started the game with a hugely higher skill points now, but when I was playing I was literally 6 months from even being able to use the ships I wanted, if I played 0 minutes a day or 24 hours a day. Fundamentally for me, you puts your time in, kills your ships you should be in equal footing.

Ever heard of calling a target primary? Focus fire is used all the time in EVE, without focus fire your fleet would fail big time. Yes someone ends up dying of course they do but normally or at least most alliances will replace your ship or infact they might of GIVEN u the ship in the first place to use in the fleet!

This is not the only way to make money in EVE you know, how about using your brain a bit and maybe play the markets or even cause a little havoc by scanning cargo hold of haulers and seeing what people are transporting. There are loads of ways of making money, missions have got better too now no longer are they the same over and over as now they have epic arcs to complete.

If this is what you are after then EVE is not for you, how can you expect to get in a decent ship right from the off set? You know this is a MMO you dont just start with decent stuff you have to work for it. Its taken me awhile yes but once you have got a few months under your belt things progress quicker

You are mistaken, a lot of players with lower skill points kill high skilled characters... Skills are only half the game, for example training battleship lvl 5 for a specific race will only give the player a extra 5% to a certain bonus, so if you have lvl 4 then well you are not far away from a 4 year player anyway

Cant have everything in a few days mate thats not what an MMO is about

I played it for a two week trial. Found the interface horribly clunky and the gameplay rather slow and plodding. Not to mention got podded by pirates a few times.
