For those of you wondering what the greatest MMO is, please watch this.

this video isnt UO

This.

Sci-Fi MMOs arent really my thing. That and the chances of any MMO ever coming close to the sheer astounding excellence of UO in its prime are incredibly slim :)

And I challenge anyone who played back in the day to not get all nostalgic listen to that music. So many memories. As pathetic as it is, I would actually do anything to be a little 13 year old innocent, simple, kid playing UO again back in the glory days.

Hehehe me too, totally agree :) (though I was 25 at the time rather than 13 :D )

Tried Eve, twice now, really didn't click with me. I really wish it had, I find the goings on fascinating and when these big things happen and make it into PCG and stuff like that it's always a really interesting read.

Also amusing to see so many people stating their opinion as fact!

Not an MMO, but the upcoming jumpgate evolution game from codies shows promise - that is if they make the online work - unlike a few of their games of late

I heard there was no dedicated servers (LOL)

eve is epic. but as said before, only once your in an alliance. So if anyone tries the game, get in a PVP alliance asap, its a differant game then, and most big alliances give away free ships.

PVP is great, love the epicness of the game, from the smallest ship to the largest. You all play a roll when it comes to fleet warfare.

Agreed. :) SWG Pre-CU was better than any other MMO currently out there in my opinion!

Seconded... Since the CU and my inevitable departure from the game I have never been tempted to play another MMO as they all seem to be a step backwards! I really hope they do something similar to the original SWG model in one of the new ones, maybe Star Trek or something?

Gotta laugh at the 'mining for months' type posts. I think my character has about half a bil in the bank at the moment, about a dozen ships, most of them T2, and I've never looked sideways at an asteroid, never mind actually mined one.

Their loss, if they're failing to realise that it really is an open universe where just about anything goes, as long as it's within the game mechanics. Trading, missioning, piracy, exploration, empire wars, 0.0 alliances, mercenary work, finance (create your own bank) and financial corruption, espionage, pyramid schemes, the scope is just breath-taking.

Although to be fair, the old tutorial completely failed to demonstrate any of this, while at the same time showing you how you could make money from mining. Not really surprising so many people fall into the trap, especially when no other game comes remotely close to the level of freedom available, so why would new players expect it?

Both a great game and a **** game.

I played it for 2-3 years and was very good at it. had 30B isk when I left (more than two years ago. 30B back then was considered huge) and probably within the top 1% of PVPers.

I ended up ebaying my stuff and characters for some £2.5k and leaving. It just got so boring.

Eve is just a chat program with a little bit of a game attached. People log on to talk to others more than anything.

PVP was dead. One hour stalking for one minute kill.
The last month I ended up resorting to camping a 0.0 station with only one other pal. Both of us double or triple accounting and keeping this one station siege. Got a dozen or so good kills out of that per day but again that isn’t a lot.

I ended up kitting a plate thorax and stealing cans from HAC mission runners, plex runners, and 0.0 pirates. No one ever fought unless they think you have no chance.

I remember a fight in my plate rax against a deimos. I was in structure when he popped. The guy dropped 3B in gistii faction equipment. The poor sod was transporting two weeks or so of plex loot.

EVE needs to allow people to start at 10m skill points. There is no point at all starting from new as the first 6-12 months will be a pure grind. It also needs to be a lot cheaper to fight in eve because at least when I played the cost of losing a ship meant no one engaged in PVP.

The biggest issue with eve to be quite honest is it's community, never have I seen so many cretins gathered in one place, the eve forums are so full of idiots it's just funny.

It's not idiots so much as egos. Despite how cool I think the game is, it's the reason I left in the end, just couldn't stand how seriously people took the whole thing.

never have I seen so many elitist, self serving cretins gathered in one place

Fixed :D

The game is boring too.

[This comment is the authors opinion and in no way claims to be fact, only fact in the opinion of the author, just as fanboi ravings are the opinion of fanbois! Thanks]

Eve is a second life for a lot of its players, in fact for a big portion it is probably their first life with the real world used to sleep/eat/$hit.

Great days indeed, my 2nd favourite MMO ever. RvR videos never quite do it justice sadly, hell of a lot of fun.
Ditto for Daoc, incredible game and my second fav mmo behind UO. I started out on the Euro beta and stuck to it despite GOA's fail's at every hurdle.
