When do you think the PS4 and xbox 380 will be released?

Do you think 1080p will be standard for next gen or is that still too much to ask? Will they stick with 720p but have more detail on screen and/or go down the 3D route?
I dont think it will - think its far more important to have 720p 60fps with adequate FSAA across the board as a minimum standard, just like HD is dealt with in TVs (HD Ready = HDCP+HDMI+720p)...

The benefits of 1080p over 720p arent important enough to lose good, stable fps and AA.

I've a feeling it won't stop all the disingenuous developers claiming to have 1080p games but are running it at 720p or even lower upscaled. A good half (this is a ballpark guess) of my games can't even manage 720p. All the massive games are lower than that.

1080p is highly unlikely, even for next generation. I would actually be surprised if they managed to get every game standardized at 720p, and I bet a few developers would still go lower just to squeeze that extra juice out of the systems. The only way to stop that is to declare it mandatory by the console manufacturers - and that's no good either when you see that Microsoft enforced such a rule for the 360 but half the launch games ended up breaking that already, as did Halo 3. Since then, it's fair game.

I think there is a good few years in both consoles yet, with games like MW2 really showing of the power of both machines.

Considering that barely renders above SD resolution on consoles, i'm not sure that is the best example of console 'power' :p

Isn't Natel coming out Nov next year on the five year anniversary, can't seem MS replacing the xbox so shortly after that as they are promoting it as bringing a whole new lease of life to the 360.

I do agree with him though. For a cross-platform game, it still graphically puts a lot of first-party efforts to shame, and still runs at 60 frames per second to boot, at least in the awesome multiplayer. Maps like High Rise, Terminal and Quarry look ridiculously good.

if its released in 2013-14 i reckon xbox 1080 is likely, your all a bit sort of worst case scenario atm imo, these days you can get a 23 inch 720p hd lcd thats good for 300 quid, tvs are only getting cheaper and i can see all lcds being 1080p in 3 years easy, with 19inchers being available now.
Also im willing to bet my leg that the nextbox will have
A)a lower clock frequency
B)at least 12 cores
C)about 6gb of ram and a 2tb (or more maybe even ssd) harddrive in the base model

might sound crazy, but we are talking 5 years here. and 6 cores cpu's are around the corner at the time of release of the 360 you couldnt get a 3 core cpu soo think about it

MW2 is only 600p which is only a little more pixals than a Wii (standard def)... You would hope a new bread of consoles is sooner rather than later...

Can this still be called HD gaming?

hehe

got to be honest if you didnt tell me i would have thought it was 720, also i think actually Cod= about 700000 pixels
wii=307000 thats Double the detail right there

CoD res is 1024 x 600, 600p.
I was just having a dig that if we are still using a ps3 and 360 in 3 years time then the games will either still look the same or will be an even lower res...

How dull would that be :P
