Switzerland appears to have backed minaret ban

are you so against european culture?

Rather silly thing to say. You can have grandiose and beautiful buildings much like most typical ancient churches and such, but intended for something other than worship, a practice I'm not particularly fond of.

Is it not fair to say that if minarets are banned, then other equivalent religious architecture should be also?

not that silly, religion has had massive historical and cultural impact on europe, and atheists are a small minority of the population.

you appear to want to do the thing muslims are accused of, namely changing the shape of culture...

Racism, pure and simple, hang your heads in shame, Switzerland.

Well, no it isn't. Intolerance certainly but it isn't racism.

But I think they are right. We need to stand up against this imported middle eastern religion coming over to our shores and usurping our own imported middle eastern religion! Oh hang on...

I guess there isn't a big problem with Hindu temples or Anglican Churches changing the way Swiss cities look.

Perhaps I do. I can't be the only one who thinks we'd be better off as a people if everyone believed in themselves and each other, over something that is ultimately make-believe.

Consider me one of the 'bad guys' then.

Or we could just believe in celebrities, movies, football and porn.

Humans have always had a worship culture and it doesn't have to be centred around religion. You're the one with the faith-based belief if you think human beings would be better off without religion.

We'd be just the same as always.

Lets see how some extreme religious countries like it if I want to erect some religious building that has a minority presence in their culture. Do you think there will even be a vote?

Good move by the Swiss, they voted on it - That is the outcome. If you do not like it, leave the country?

I am getting sick to death of this expected tolerance a country should have for 100% of the population of the earth and their views. Intolerance would be banning worship of a religion ENTIRELY, I see nothing wrong with not wanting religious structures being erected in your country.

If I go to another country I damn well respect their culture, their laws and their views. Who the hell am I as a foreigner to start dictating or complaining about ANYTHING?

18% of people in Europe are atheists.

45% of people in Europe are agnostic or atheist, and do not subscribe to a particular religion.

Small minority?

18% seems to be a pretty small minority. Not the smallest but still small enough to be subject to the tyranny of the majority. Would you like your child to be forced to be brought up Christian due to popular vote?

I don't know about you but I do not base the aspirations of my country on some of the worst regimes for freedom in the world.

Good that is until you become the minority that is targeted. Most people are a minority in one fashion or other.

What about if you are the majority that is targeted? No-one will die because of a ban on the construction of new minarets, can we say the same of Islamisation?

But this is a religious, non-native minority. So what's your point?

Funny how there is only a ridiculous uproar these days when religion is involved. If it was a ban on pink buildings with blue flashing lights that a minority had an affinity for nobody would bat an eyelid.
