Steam, 50% off Arkham Asylum (plus a few others)

is that specific to ADSL? because if you are talking about virgins cable service then thats nonsense.

Not entirely it isn't. After 4pm Virgin enforce a download limit on your connection, if you exceed that they heavily limit your connection. For example our 10mbit connection, once the download limit has been exceeded for that evening (2gig iirc) they limit the connection to 2mbit.

Im on cable and they drop my connection to 5mb from 20mb every evening. I should know about this because I have friends who work on the broadband helpdesk there who tell me about it.

I've got a ton to download after buying a big chunk of games, I'm just trying to cram everything in overnight or between 3 and 4pm midday (it's a "free" period with no caps on the downstream).

But yes, VM caps suck ass. I love how their reasoning for it is:

Why do you have a traffic management policy?

We believe in making sure all our customers can use our Broadband without being slowed down by heavy users.

Yet the 50MB "flagship" service has no bandwidth caps on upstream or downstream at any point during the day/week.

I just went and added Riddick and Evil Genius to my already large list thanks to having bought the THQ pack and GRID the other day, well i did say to myself when i made a much needed upgrade recently that i should get back into pc gaming, thanks to steam i have more than i ever thought possible in such a short time and for so cheap, amazing! :D

I hate having the pc on at night although its much quieter than it used to be i think it would still cause annoyance, dunno what it is about it though, just gives me a weird feeling lol, i can't understand how anyone sleeps with a real noisy pc.

As to steam downloads being slow, for me they were ok, grid came down a little slow, at least you can download as i can't even start an install at the moment because servers are busy, its a bit of a joke as if you buy something they really should have the bandwidth, i can forgive em though due to all the good deals and i've got a few new games already to keep me busy.

I,m on Virgin and i get 20mb all the time no matter what i download. When i was on 10mb i used to get throttled all the time but since upgrading to 20mb its never happened even after downloading huge amounts during the day and after 6pm.

Im gonna call their helpdesk and ask them to check it out for me. Its a pain tho cos even games are laggy for me.

Steam wouldnt let me download last night!! kept on saying servers were too busy.

I guess im lucky none of the games have interested me on the last two days (sunday/monday)...

But £15 on Batman, £20 on L4D2 and £25 on THQ pack that i never intended on spending has stung me enough i thinks.

edit: oh and £2 on KOTOR, im getting tempted to punt £2 for monkey island... 86/100 metascore cant be bad...can it?

Monkey island is a classic and worth £1.74 of anyones money. If enough people buy it they may remake monkey island 2 :D
